Their Royal Highnesses Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and their children, Prince Henrik and Princess Athena, returned to Denmark yesterday, when Prince Henrik was examined at Rigshospitalet for respiration problems connected with asthmatic bronchitis. In addition, Prince Henrik was examined for coronavirus. The test was negative.

In consideration of Prince Henrik’s condition, the parents found it most reassuring to seek treatment at Rigshospitalet, where personnel have followed the Prince for several years. The whole family is now residing at Amalienborg.

Glad to know that little Henrik is doing fine and tested negative for covid-19. But maybe they should have returned to Denmark when the situation got bad in Paris, and the lockdowns are about to be imposed. France is in full lockdown. Same in Denmark, with the borders closed. Travelling is not a good option in this situation.

The little dear.  It must be such a worry for all of them. A good decision to return to Denmark when they could.

I just recovered from a week of bronchitis myself.  It cannot have been easy for the Schacks and I am glad they are home and wee Henrik is being looked after by his home doctors.

Marie is one of my favorite royals and these are cute pictures, even though they're blurry. Tonder looks absolutely charming...I'd never heard of it until I saw the pictures of the starlings at sunset at the nature reserve there and after that, Tonder made it onto my dream experience list!

They always look happy and relaxed when they are together, so nice to see!

To me it looks more like they're building up a life in France.

If I were a Dane, I’d be very annoyed if they moved permanently to France with my taxpayer’s money finding their lifestyle. Joachim still gets an apanage, doesn’t he? 🤔

Yes, he does. But you can’t get it if you live permanently abroad. If they were to stay in France, he’d stop getting apanage.

Once the Queen passes, the Schacks won't be able to leave Denmark fast enough, and permanently,  mark my words.  Joachim will have a big fat inheritance and he won't need the apanage.  Or perhaps I should say he'll sacrifice the apanage for his freedom.

I don't have anything against them but it kind of bothers me that these "spares" can't find their niche in their own countries.  And maybe contribute a bit more to their homeland. That's probably too much said so I'll shut up now  Blush

I totally agree with you 100%.....it is egos at play with spares of royal families and their own insecurities within themselves.

I don't see overbearing egos on Joachim and his family more healthy strong ones. It is a hard thing to be second born in a monarchy it seems but unlike his British cousins Joachim seems to be doing the best he can with his lot in life. He was told to be a farmer and it took courage to break away. He is in a good marriage and I think he tried his best with the first wife too. He loves his children and has a lot of personal dignity. This military role in France may just be a gateway to something more long term for himself in the military or in other leadership role. That would be fitting. He is 50 now and with his personal life strong he can focus on the next 20 years. He may not even know where it takes him yet. I look forward to watching their evolution as a family.

IMO, they want their kids to be fluent in French and have both cultures. And they want a temporary good job to boost Joke's carrier. It helps Denmark too, to have a high rank military trained by French Army, as Joke said it during an interview. This French "Ecole de guerre" were he was trained is really excellent, and French generls are very often leading peace operations around the world. French diplomacy is probably still number 1 (it's a French word) and except Apostolic emissaries from the Holly Sea, first diplomats were French. French are still all over the world. They are neighbors of many people on this planet. They have militaries watching over their oversea's territories. Joke said he wanted to learn and share his experience later in Denmark, so he will return to his homeland. As he is half French, he had more easily access to this school, carrier. French consider him as French. His family name is French, to begin with. And he has a land there, his family owns their estate, and they employ people. They pay their taxes, too.

Their children are 75 % French, I think that they were speaking French at home in Denmark, so they could be fluent. This years in Paris will definitively help them to progress.
