Oh my God, thank you both, peri and VanillaMoomin!
I had written a huge text to post here, talking about him, the magazine he used to write, the mentality in Greece back then, all these being part of the problem and how we were led to the crisis etc...
I didn't post it because I thought it was too much background information.

Thanks for saying this and I'm not the only one to see it this way!

He had a huge entitlement mentality - born to be "King" and I'd say never got over it. He married AM - "Princess" and his sister married JC from Spain who expected to get the title one day. These people live in a bubble. He wanted a royal or a deposed one for his son but settled for a very rich daughter who would pay the bills. But I suspect they had money out of Greece already and it added to the "poor deposed" and living on relatives stichk that they peddled

I was talking about Takis, who wrote the article on tatler. Konstantinos I'm sure he had money abroad and I'm sure he never ever imagined that there will be a day he will be no longer king - but his latest years he managed to come back and live rather descent and quietly.

I’d be really interested in reading your perspective, Onar! Your post sounds really interesting to me. All your posts about Greece have been interesting, I’ve learned a lot from them!

onar I love your contributions. I would also love to hear your thoughts on Taki. He is a PILL.

He used to write in that old lifestyle magazine, that immitation of Tatler - and as most "big" greek projects in early aughts big money were threw in to copy even bigger projects from abroad. Anyway, I was 12-16 and that magazine was my only trustworthy source for royals because the other option were aweful gossip magazines without any interest. So, back then, I used to love lifestyle magazines, home designers, clothes designer, I could recognise many of their works without seeing their name and I was a royal fan. As a kid, I thought being royal was everything. I saw Carl-Philip there for the 1st time and he was so, SO sexy!
The publication house has  been closed since the crisis started because of huge loans the owner had taken - without ever paying them back afaik.
Takis had a column in the last page and he used to sing as "Sir Taki" - a pun with greek sirtaki and with the title of Sir I suppose.
He used to glorify them, and by them I mean especially the greek royal family. He used to casually write that he was partying with the Millers and other royal/celebs, owners for super private clubs, galleries... I don't remember specifics now.
So, in my previous post (the one I didn't post), I was thinking outloud how this mentality partly led us to the crisis, to fault business and imaginary status here, withing the coutry. We were trying to reach something it wasn't actually fitting. He was snob to anyone with different opinion or coming from a different background - not straightforward but with hints: If you were poor but manage to make money, you were worthy. If you had stayed poor, you were not in the map at all.

My actual problem is with people who are Greeks, have grown up in Greece, this country is their base and this country actually allowed them to rise (financially, socially, etc) and yet they don't care that the country bleeds. That's my problem. The fake facade, the enforcing of a certain image that doesn't suit us after all and the fact that all the rest have to be worthless mosquitos and they are the kings of the world.

EDIT: God, that's even bigger from the other post!

they don't care that the country bleeds

What are they supposed to do about it without being accused of meddling in politics?

I was reffering to  Takis, not the ex royal family. I think they do their best (mostly) and they really haven't interefered with greek politics.

The potential problem with people like Taki could be found in their influence of the former Greek royals. If the royals are not careful they can get sucked down a vortex that not even all their money and family tree will rescue them from. Pavlos has already expressed very conservative opinions on economic and governmental affairs in small clips you can find on the internet. No problem if he remains a private citizen. But a portrait of him emerges to me from the funeral and all other background here that he is a man from a loving family who doesn't have much more than a low wattage brain who suddenly upon marriage to a super rich woman is running hedge funds and leading a royal house whatever the heck that means in a 21st century republic. Who is filling his head? A hedge fund father in law and people like Taki. There was a lot of goodwill shown by some people during the funeral for his father and this is kind and appropriate especially considering the king wasn't really staging a come back so much as just trying to retire and live a quiet life in his home country. Pavlos now lives in a weird place. Super rich and not bright and the lightning rod of royal thoughts. He seems gracious and kind and this is possibly another vulnerability to shift shapers like tacky Taki.

I have occasional connections to people in the diaspora and while they love Greece and their heritage there are divisions between the richer and less rich people within this group. The super rich diaspora is not necessarily helping matters is one view.

Nicely said!

1.Pavlos has already expressed very conservative opinions on economic and governmental affairs
I remember an interview back when crisis hit Greece hard (and the rest of the world, but we continued to live in crisis for a decade and then covid came) and he said bi BS. I thought it was the opinion of someone who haven't lived in Greece so he had no idea what was really going on. No your post makes me think maybe he had studied what exactly happened and it wasn't spontaneous answers from an ignorant person.

2. Who is filling his head? A hedge fund father in law and people like Taki.
People like them whould exploit everyone, at any moment, to succeed, to open even more doors.

3. The super rich diaspora is not necessarily helping matters is one view.
Not only the super, trully rich diaspora but also the super rich people who live in Greece and their businesses/companies are based in Greece. It's clearly a matter of money. Rich people want to become even richer, no matter what.

Now, I was thinking a previous post (yours? I don't remember) that MC seems to have taught good manners to her kids and proper behaviour means everything but how does it flow with MO's CONSTANT posing? I saw pics from her ski trip with her boyfriend and friends... and.... oh, girl, stop posing, please! You're out with friends. No one else did that, at least not the way MO did it.
D you think it's gonna last with her boyfriend? She's too young for an engagement, let alone getting married and having kids. I'm sure that she's obliged to marry someone "of their status" (all the telenovelas I watched in the 90scome to my mind! ) but she's too young and also they don't seem to have the slightest connection. No chemistry at all.

Manners and etiquette are one of those things that people use divisively. Are you one of us? Your manners will show it. It makes a lady sounds gracious as a person and responsible as a parent. But it can be weaponized.

MC was 26 when she got married so I wouldn't be surprised if Olympia followed suit. Maybe an engagement announcement after all the memorial services for Constantine are over?

This has ever been the Greek Royal Family's problem. Dating back (at least) to Frederika, they've tried to build the foundations of the monarchy (when they've been on and off the throne) on a rock consisting of right-leaning and ultra-wealthy elements in Greek society. What they never seem to understand is that this "rock" isn't stable enough on its own to support those foundations.

The European monarchies that have endured into the 21st century have all found a way to convince disparate elements in their respective societies that the monarchy represents all sectors of society. The Greek Royal Family has been unwilling or unable to do this. As such, they find themselves in their current, curious state of limbo.

As for that Tatler article, it really does them no favors. It only adds to their "Let them eat cake" image.

Thank you miliosr for the information. You can see why people plotted to mate MC and Pavlos in the first place. I didn't know the history and how far back this goes I was fascinated by the society girl marrying a prince as it was presented in Tatler and Vanity Fair. I do have some sense that Constantine's mother was radioactive in some way. Well it all confirms my suspicions and a negative trajectory if they take it too far. On instagram I saw a formal portrait of Pavlos that was just released I mean really you guys give it up.
