Star Pix

He does have a nice side, he's obviously devoted to his wife and children and I agree he does pick good causes to highlight. But good grief, when he goes off the rails it's spectacular! Unfortunately his drama is all we usually see, he torpedoes all his good work with his entitled, spoiled brat antics.

Back at you!  Star

If he could keep his head out of his arse, so to speak, and just focus on causes like this and his animal rescue work, he'd be absolutely stellar.  He also could go to the media and instead of whining about BS, could say something like, "Yes, I had an absolutely terrible childhood and my parents were awful.  But, you know what?  I'm working very, very hard to make life nothing but absolutely beautiful and perfect for my children and wife."  And if he kept his head down and kept on doing his charity work, he could be one of the most popular royals in the world, IMO.  I think he does truly care about animals and about helping vulnerable people.  He's one of the few royals in any royal family who actually does seem to care very much about his patronages.

I think Laurent is the type of person who feels things very deeply, so he reacts stronger than maybe the average person would.

Laurent wrote a letter to the Parliament before the vote about his dotation.

Star In the absence of any context, Laurent's submission left me sad. Sad

Yes. Very sad, indeed. I think the Belgians have been hard on their royal family since Leopold III.

I don't feel sad for Laurent, he's been warned time and time and again that his actions have consequences and they are finally catching up with him. I think his brother/government have been incredibly patient with him, partially because of his 'tough' childhood. 99.9% of the world has had a tougher childhood than his, in reality he's had everything handed to him on a silver platter, but he's a petulant child who thinks he should be able to do whatever he wants without repercussions IMO

I agree that Laurent has been a right asshat. However, according to that translation, he doesn't get health coverage or pension rights, which is different than all non-royal citizens.

I don't presume to know anything about Belgian laws. The country has an incredibly complicated government structure due to the divided nature of the two main cultural / linguistic groups. However, I know that 0 of Fabiola's (and Baudouin's) estate was able to be given to her Spanish family after the scandal of her estate planning by lawyers.

I think that's pretty sad that she was able to give nothing to her family due to the uproar by Belgians.

Either Laurent needs a livable income or he needs to leave the country to earn for himself and his family.

He doesn't get a pension surely because he gets hundreds of thousands of Euro a year in allowances from the State. Likewise I imagine his health care is taken care of for him TBH.

He is a petulant child IMO, he has done many good things but if you are told to follow rules then don't there is a consequence. Most of us learnt that early in life, and as a teacher thats certainly what I teach my 5-6 year olds so why doesn't Laurent understand that? I think its fair he looses some of his allowance for not following the rules.

I truly hope you are correct, because I hate to think that his children will suffer even more from his (probable) mental illness.

To benefit from mental health care you have to ask for help, I get the feeling Laurent doesn't see anything wrong with his behavior so doesn't think he needs help. There is no way the court is going to allow Laurent's family to go without healthcare or the means to get healthcare privately. He's hardly poor, and if he hasn't been stashing money away from his allowance then that's his own fault IMO

Wow,  he was attractive  once upon a time.

What the hell happened?  How did he go to seed so fast?

I have to think his deteriorating mental state played a big part.

So this big manchild is going to make an appeal in the Council of State because he will get 15% less money for one year. He should be happy that it's only one year after thinking he can do whatever he wants without real punishment  Angry .

I blame Laurent and his inability to cope with reality on his idiot parents.  They caused this.  Yes, he's a grown-ass man who is entirely responsible for himself and his failure to be a functioning human being, but Albert and Paola brought this on.  Hopefully, Claire has some influence on him and has made him get the psychological help he desperately needs.  I also hope she's told him to shut up and stop whining.
