I found this link which has photos of royal wedding cakes. Enjoy!

Well compared to the other cakes the Netherlands had a small and plain one indeed... hardly worth a confectionary mention.
The spanish one is fab, made out of wood I assume? And no wonder since the bride and bridegrooms mother look like they detest sugar with a vengance.
I never had a wedding cake, they for some reason were slightly out of fashion when and where I married, however looking at those cakes I must say I like the floral very classic ones best. Chantal and her greek prince had a nice one as did (astonishingly) Fergie and Andrew, (on second thought it is not so astonishingly at all: Fergie by all means would have been a connaiseur and probably ate the cake crumb by crumb all by herself...)

I'm not a fan of fussy cakes prefering sleek and modern designs so my favourites from that link were F&L's and Hamzah and Noor's.

It looks like chocolate, maybe mousse?

I'd definitely be happy to eat that!

So the "staircase" is indeed wood, isn't it? and has plates attached on which little tarte like cakes sit. Right? That would be actually better, I was wondering if the whole thing is supposed to be the cake....

I've always been attracted to wedding cakes for the sheer artistic endeavor (most of them taste like crap!) so these photos are a most welcome treat!! Thanks for these, L_s.  Do feel better soon!!

Edward and Sophie's cake looks like it came out of a Tim Burton movie, or maybe from Slytherin House at Hogwarts.

I'm sure your cake was delicious.  I just don't care for cake in general.
