WA and Max at the (private) goodbye to Christina today.
What do the flowers stand for? I assume they've some meaning.
I assume so:
None of the guests in the procession were dressed in black and the children of Christina, Bernardo, Juliana and Nicolás wore a flower on their chest. Just like in the funeral chapel, Christina's coffin was full of sunflowers.
Thanks. So I guess it's some kind of homage. We'll probably never know, but maybe Christina stated in her last will/expressed that she doesn't want a black funeral.
Or they felt themselves that she wouldn't want it. Whatever it is, it's a sweet choice and I like it very much. Good job on whoever organized it.
I also noticed that her older 3 sisters, but also other attendees, have flowers somewhere (in their clothing, in jewelry or such). F.e. the sleeves of Beatrix's outfit and the whole of Margriet's dress.
BTW according to Dutch Media:
"...Christina did not want her farewell to be a tough, formal gathering. That is why most of those present wore colorful clothing. Some had a flower in their buttonhole. The coffin was covered with sunflowers…."
