A question has just occurred to me, when I was looking at a photo of QEII in Girls of Great Britain. What, exactly, is the difference between a crown and a tiara? If I didn't know that what the queen was wearing was a particular and well-known tiara, I would probably have thought it was a crown.  And that tiara she is seen wearing on various postage stamps -- the one with the Maltese crosses -- would probably be considered a crown by a lot of people.  Do only official state-held headgear qualify as crowns?

The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor has a good article about that subject: http://orderofsplendor.bl...01-tiara-terminology.html

This might help answer your question

And once there you can go down the rabbit hole of tiara info!

I was surprised it took so long for Mary's wedding tiara to appear...... I actually don't mind it, you know, before the glue gun came out! Especially when compared to Snakey's and Sophie's disasters. But Mary really was a victim of Joachim and Alex's problems, otherwise she may have been given a better tiara - perhaps even the floral now loaned to Marie.  It's certainly nicer than either Vic or Madde's 18th tiaras, which are just sad little things!

With regard to whether Mary will insist Marie give hers back, it belongs to the Crown, so it would have to be Fred's call (and he wouldn't)...... Same with Daisy's tiaras, she gets no say in who they go to (well a couple that are her personal property yes) but the couple of major ones go to the new Queen...... Which at the moment would be Mary..... I would suspect she would bequeath her personal ones to her granddaughters

The tiara Marie wears is actually apart of Margrethe's personal collection, so she might leave it to Joachim along with others. I'd say most of her personal jewels will probably go to her grandkids(tiaras and such) to Isabella and perhaps Josie.

The Stockholm tiara was a wedding present to Queen Astrid of Belgium when she left her natal Sweden to marry the fiture King Leopold.
It looks a thousands times better as a necklace or a brooch  Nerves

It probably looked reasonably OK worn low on the brow like people wore tiaras in the 1920's but I agree, much better as a necklace.

Wow! Never realized before how much Elisabeth of Belgium resembles her great grandmother. They look so much alike!

Looks like a spiderweb in her hair. And the earrings are equally ugly.

Why doesn't Mary save her money and buy a qualified to tiara?

While I am a fan of wearing jewelry in hair, this not so much; kind of looks like someone dipped a weed in a gold.  Roll Eyes

One of my bugaboos is getting anything tangled in my hair. So that spray of gold leaves would drive me crazy, fearing I'd never be able to take it out without tangles. But hey, I'm not Mary.
