Sophie Wessex's wedding tiara is a real dog's dinner, in my opinion.  Thank heavens Liz is lending her a few more these days.

Although I like Grand Duchess Maria Theresa, I think the Tiara she is wearing is awful and one of the
   worst I have seen.   Yikes

Wow. The state of it. The main part floats awkwardly, the base shows, even the hair clip is showing. I wonder if they can make a different base, or would it not be ergonomic enough. It seems to be a problem with almost all her tiaras.

She should have a play date with Marianne Dulong and Mary and alter all her tiaras. They both have experienced experience Blink

I wish someone could tell me more about this tiara. What are 'antemions'?

"The place where the diamonds and parts came from were a mystery. Plenty of theories have been said over the years (a lot of talk over tiara, wow). The 4 parts are actually from four detachable antemions from Queen Victoria’s regal circlet. (below)"

"If you look in the lid you can see the 4 parts of the tiara."

So... what was it made of again?

Edit: I'm answering my own question since I found another pic:

Apparently, anthemion means "repeated border design of fan-shaped leaf of a palm /  palmette shape". So I guess, it's the pointy bits in Sophie's tiara, the shape sort of corresponds with the indentations of the top of the jewel box.

Oh, how could I forget how awful Sophie's wedding tiara was? I call that thing the Frankenstein tiara in my mind. So tacky. I was always surprised that the queen had it cobbled together and gave it to her as a wedding present.

The alternate cut steel tiara that Victoria dragged out of some closet Tupperware bin dress-up armoire vault isn't so bad, but to my modern eyes looks so cheap. It's shape doesn't suit her at all. It'd look better on someone without that chin from hell, poor darling.

Count me as one of the rare folks here that likes the midnight tiara. I like that it's different. Its wearer brings no distinction or character or sparkle or shine to it, though. It'd look better on blond or gray hair; it just gets lost in the brunette. It'd look spectacular on Beatrice of York, who not only has personality to lend to it, but that darker motif against her red hair... fabuloso!

As for the Outer Space tiara in Norway, someone upthread marveled that the king had it made and then gifted it to Sonja. Just remember, it was the 70s. It was a time of very weird fashion concepts.
