His rotation is expected to last 6-7 months.
At the same time they pull out, they still need new recruits.
"The 22-years-old Prince will join his regiment, the Blues and Royal, in Iraq as part of a long-planned rotation of troops.
Two squadrons from the Household Cavalry Regiment (HCR), of which Harry is part, will be deployed. The rotation of troops will take place in May and June.
Sandhurst-trained Prince Harry was said to be "over the moon" at the news. He had let it be known that he would consider quitting if he were not allowed to serve with his Regiment if it was deployed in a war zone.
"The last thing I said was there’s no way I’m going to put myself through Sandhurst and then sit on my arse back home while my boys are out fighting for their country," he once admitted. "That may sound very patriotic, but it’s true. It’s not the way anyone should really work."
The 22-year-old third in line to the throne is to become the first royal to be deployed on a tour of duty in a war zone for a quarter of a century. His uncle, the Duke of York, flew helicopters in the Falklands conflict 25 years ago.
His presence in Iraq will cause enormous security problems and there are fears he - and his men - could be singled out as a prime target by Iraqi insurgents. An attack on the Prince would be seen as a huge propaganda victory.
Clarence House and the Ministry of Defence said that the Prince would carry out a "normal troop commander’s role".
