It seems so add to me to select people of grandparent age, royal or not, as godparents. The idea of godparents, as I was taught, is that they are adults mature in their faith who will help guide the child on the right path throughout his childhood and adolescence. So ideally, godparents should be of the same generation as the child's parents.
