So the rumors were true!

http://www.lalibre.be/act...dbda#.UdQgRdQdH9-.twitter

So it's going to be King Philippe and Queen Mathilde now, and Elisabeth as Duchess of Brabant (not sure about her title though..she is the first female heir in Belgium)

Yes  Banana July 21 is very soon, but the abdication ceremony will be quite sober I think.

I wonder if Albert and Paola will remain King and Queen by name or that they will do a Bea. Talking about Beatrix: she was a trendsetter   Icecream

Cannot remember how they did it last time 20 yrs ago). Technically Filip will become King on the 21st, but might there not be a separate a ceremony to install/crownN/anoint etc him. The ppl will have a day off anyway, because 21st July is a National Holiday in Belgium (cheapskates!!!)

King Leopold III (Albert's father) was still named King after his abdication

Yes! Good decision! Jumping  (I'm not an Albert fan. Wink)

I thought the rumor would be true, because it was already reported last year with the specific date.

So it's going to be King Philippe and Queen Mathilde now, and Elisabeth as Duchess of Brabant (not sure about her title though..she is the first female heir in Belgium)

Yes, a 2001 Royal Decree said a female heir would be Duchess of Brabant. But Philippe is called "Prince Philippe" officially - it seems only royal watchers like to call him Duke of Brabant. Wink

Hmmmm seems like the ceremony is pretty bland: 'just' an oath in Parliament. No actual coronation, they don't even own a state crown. Seems that someone somewhere a long time ago did a clever thing in starting his own church  Whistle

Anyway, there can be some time between becoming King and the parliament thing (3 days in Albert II's case), but I would love to see a highly dishworthy flimsy summer dress and ill-fitting sandals-y ceremony! And of course a tiara ball.
