Haha a little bit of a "hello fellow kids" vibe a la Steve Buscemi but I like it. Phil does Dorky Dad well because he's in on the joke.

Queen Til's dress is by Belgian/Congolese designer Odile Jacobs.

Til and Phil are holding a thank you concert for the S African president this evening, but he's pulled out at the last moment

They kind of are the ``mom and dad'' among the royals, aren't they? Northing fancy, always reliable and presentable.

I’m reading that this trip has been problematic. The President pulling out of the concert arranged to thank him. I read he was late to the dinner that had already been moved and scaled back? Press statements canceled. Surely stressful for Til and Phil but they have carried on gracefully.

Out of gratitude for the South African hospitality, the King and Queen organise a jazz concert with 🇧🇪 and 🇿🇦 musicians.

It does seem like there are some tensions, but good on Phil and Til for keeping on truckin'

I like Til's evening look a lot - nice dress, good lipstick and hair. That said, her bag looks like a pencil case

This trip is clearly not going as anticipated, but they are acting very professionally.

But why is this trip problematic? In the beginning it didn't look like this and if S. Africa didn't want them to visit they would have said so before?
Belgium, as far as I can remember didn't have colonies in S. Africa. It could be quite problematic if they would visit Kongo,

Maybe somebody here has some more knowledge and can explain.

It looks like two things - the president of South Africa is facing lots of protests about his leadership, and this has led him to scale back the banquet and then not attend the concert. Secondly, he was asked some challenging questions on S Africa's defence policy and responded by ordering the press out of a conference.

I don't think the tension has anything to do with Phil and Til, they are just visiting SA at an awkward time in terms of domestic politics

Thanks for the explanation FC.

Great that they are working to create Covid vaccines in Africa.
