I would want to get away from Mary too lol. It is strange to me that they keep Christian in Denmark. For a future king he would greatly benefit for at least one year of his life in a foreign setting and I realize he and his siblings lived a couple of months in Switzerland but that got cut short and I mean for him on his own. To learn or perfect another language and to be exposed by himself with his peers he lives with to another culture or way of doing things.

My thoughts exactly!  Most kids probably dread going away to boarding school (even just a little), but like Harry Potter, Christian might just be dancing in anticipation.

Boarding school at the age that Christian is right now is actually pretty normal in Denmark. The only unusual thing is the school heís going to. Itís SUPER posh in contrast to other Danish schools.

Itís also the school that Nikolai (but not Felix) went to after he finished at Krebs Skole.

Nikolai seems very chic, outgoing and confident so perhaps this school helped bring that out ... Which would be a good thing for Christian.  As for foreign education, he could always decide to have a semester abroad at a college outside Denmark.

Itís a much better age to start boarding than some other cultures start at.

Heís already bilingual and has been learning either German or French or both in school. I am certain he will get some king of abroad experience at some point like both Fred and Joachim had.

I think itís good that he gets as normal an education for as long as possible so I think itís good he starts high school now. Itís a bit of a surprising choice of school though and somewhat ironic too. F&M were praised for picking a regular, normal public school and now they are going for the most elite school in the country.. quite a switch!

Thanks everyone for the insider information. Glad to know going abroad may be likely in his future. It's a shame that his parents are sending him to a posh school when other options are available.

I'm sure he already speaks perfect French, learnt from his mother  Laughing

But in all seriousness, I'm sure he would have a decent grasp on French from his father and grandfather and school. I don't see an issue with him staying in Denmark, maybe he could do a "finishing" year abroad, or go to a foreign University, like when his father did a year at Harvard.

Perhaps his cousin recommended the school? Nikolai might have really liked it there and Xian might have asked to go there too?

Anyway, as much as I recommend a year abroad, I can understand that with Corona not going anywhere, many families are reluctant to arrange such out of country stays.
I know I feel rather relieved that all the fairies are inside the same borders, I know from other families what a hassle it was to get the kids back home from outside the country, when suddenly all traffic went silent and borders closed.
Of course the heir to the danish throne would not suffer the same uncertain dilemma, but nevertheless...

IIRC both count Richard and Ingrid, Princess Alexandraís children, went there too. I guess Felix is the odd man out for choosing another high school.

Perhaps they think this school will be best for him at this stage for whatever reason... not necessarily the ďsnobĒ element ... and in these times perhaps closer to home rather than another country is better... I know Europe is different but at short notice borders can be closed... in Australia we have been mostly unable to leave and very difficult for citizens to come back over the last year... even in the country we have had travel restrictions between geographic areas

I think ďwhatever reasonĒ is that heís done with regular school and high school is up next for him. Lots of Danes go abroad for education but few do it before high school unless he was to do a year in high school elsewhere and given the current world situation I doubt that was in the cards at any point. Especially after the odd Swiss school trip which was decidedly odd in a Danish context. He will go abroad later.

ETA: many, if not most borders are still closed in Europe and thereís much insecurity about vaccines at this point so no one knows when borders will reopen.
