In view of MM's diagnosis in the news in the last 24 hours, if she had been busting her butt a la Leti or Mathilde when they were CPs, I'd have given her more of a pass and have more feels about it. However, I'm going to quote Miss M's post from March:
The problem with MM was that she cried "wolf" way too often. There are several aspects
(1) She has been caught out lying a few times. Pulling sickies and turning up at private events/ holidays. Once she cancelled a trip to South America three (!) weeks beforehand claiming to have infection. She stated fear of flying which never stopped her from exciting oversea trips.
(2) Work load - she gives the impression she is work shy (has kind of a bit improved lately) - her 80 year old inlaws work way more than she does. Maybe her PR team coped on cause it got a bit better - but there were years when she had the flu from October - April or at least you had the impression it was that lenghth of time (again, it never stopped her holidaying).
(3) Level of professionalism - her in laws also have a more professional level - e.g. work clothes - Sonia rarely gets it wrong, MM rarely gets it right. She went to college and took all these courses ... what for? She was a single mom on social welfare and could relate - but doesn't. I remember on the "take your bike to work day" when she was snapped checking her messages on the mobile while cycling and the day she turned up at an event with a coffee to go (impact on environment? tacky? rude towards the hosts?) Plus - once she was a crown princess they went to London for two years (surely not the cleverest move) - and whatever she did there, her work has not profited from that. Or remember when she ran Hakoon down publicly for not reading as much as she does.
(4) Credibility - I liked her when she first came on the scene but she has let me down so many times that I don't longer care for her. It is hard to know what she stands for if she uses her privileges as a private person to fly to India and pick up two babies that a surrogate mother carried for her two gay friends - just to turn up weeks later as a conference aiming at exploitation of women in the third world.
To me she seems arrogant a lot of times, selfish, not caring about her job, seeing herself as an intellectual (and dressing accordingly) and not caring much about anything else than her well-being and her circle of friends. Sadly as a crown princess a total fail. If she is sick now she might be really sick or pretended sick - makes no difference that she does not do her job right.
While the pulmonary fibrosis diagnosis is potentially (and likely) devastating, and while I wish her no personal ill, I can't get too sad or upset beyond a 'holy hell, that's a shitty diagnosis that I wouldn't wish on anyone.'
I am far more concerned for IA and Sverre, even for Marius (who is now an adult and on his own), and feel bad for Haakon. Haakon's getting to a point in life that losing one or both of his parents in the next ten years are pretty much guaranteed, and now he has to cope with his wife's potentially fatal diagnosis, and increasingly elderly parents, while keeping his shit together for his kids.
That might make me seem cold hearted, but of that crop of CPs, she's always rubbed me the wrong way and nothing will really ever change that.
