Kate is again not wearing Big Blue in the video, but her lovely new diamond and sapphire eternity band. Perhaps it's a fresh new start in that respect too.

I myself would find wearing Big Blue quite clunky for everyday wear. Formal occasions, not a problem.

Big Blue always looks as though it’s falling off…

Honestly,  I never really liked that ring  I found it very old fashioned,  just not my style.  I like eternity band I think she likes it more as well.

I remember feeling very disappointed when they announced the engagement and there she was wearing Big Blue. To me it carries the baggage of the Wales' unhappy marriage and draws unwanted comparisons to Diana. It just seemed like a LOT to burden a young woman with, especially one about to enter public life.

I wouldn't blame her for ditching it for good TBH.

I finally saw the video!

While it's great for her to be done with chemo, while it's more than nice to see her with Will being so sweet together, while their kids are absolutely lovely and clearly well brought-up... yes, the video is cringe because it had the sense of a documentary and I didn't like the format. Her short video on the bench was much more appropriate. This one gave me the sense of "celebrity" as it was too close to the family - not what we're used to from this family (and maybe most of royal families). On the other hand, if she felt she wanted to make a video about her recovery... who am I to judge? If only every person who battles cancer, were set free and completely healthy!

Star ITA, this was her swan song to regular royal duties. She's now a very privileged lady of leisure/stay at home mom who'll grace us with her presence every couple of months, if she feels like it.

To be honest, I would prefer that, rather then the illusion of working full time and rarely delivering.

I would prefer it only if she didn't show up at all, not just when she wants to. If she doesn't want to be a royal, fine, go be a housewife. But don't play pretend princess with Christmas concerts and dress up events, just stay home.

This is wildly speculative so maybe wait to see what will happen before judging her Beer

I preferred the straightforward video of Catherine on a bench speaking to the camera about her cancer diagnosis than this piece of...propaganda?

It was about 45 seconds too long, her hands grazing a field to reveal new bling, wearing a flouncy dress when you know she lives in jeans, the wordiness of the script (https://uk.news.yahoo.com...3425588.html?guccounter=1), the overt displays of affection, to what end?...the best parts were Will scraping a bug off of Charlotte's hair with a playing card and games night with the Middletons, these scenes seem natural and spontaneous.

When she says, "Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus," I think she intends to limit public engagements for the foreseeable future. My guess is Remembrance Day, the Christmas concert, St. Patrick's Day, Wimbledon, the Baftas, and Rugby and Sailing events will be the extent of her public life, while she continues as an active patron for her early childhood charities and art/history organizations behind the scenes. I think she has the support of the King and William and that's really all she needs. I am sure she prefers being a full-time stay at home mom to her kids over being a public figure and this video basically conveys the rationale for how she intends to move in the future. I would hope she adds one cancer organization among her patronages, but after seeing this, I doubt it.

We aren’t privy to her diagnosis or prognosis though…

Star Those were my thoughts also when they announced the engagement. I also seem to remember he said he gave Catherine the ring because he wanted his mother to be a part of it. Am I misremembering?

It makes sense, and it also makes sense to move on with a new ring now.

TKotB and I bought new wedding rings for our 25th anniversary.

It doesn't matter how old you get, buying snacks for a road trip should always look like an unsupervised 9-year-old was given $100. Anonymous

I know Kate wants to be there for her children but she isn't her sister, she has to be there for the work as well.

I agree. Her sister is fortunate enough that she married nobility and doesn't have to work. She's afforded a life of leisure. Kate, on the other hand, married royalty, which a lot different to me. She married the man but she also married the "king", which means the sense of duty is there for her as well. She's not just going to be William's wife. She's going to be Queen Consort and so to me, that expects a measure of full time work.  (Because let's be honest - their fulltime work is not 40 hours a week).

As it’s a discussion about the theoretical choices of Kate in the future it really doesn’t belong in a thread about news..

Eager to see what Kate’s next engagement will be. I am guessing an early childhood patronage?

I'm wildly speculating Remembrance Day and then Christmas Concert. No small engagements for the foreseeable future.
