Laurentien was in Colombia representing Netherlands at the Book Fair. Let me tell you I'm impressed, I thought she was snobby and kind of cold but I was wrong, she's very charming and educated and I didn't have idea she speaks Spanish so well. She learned when was 23 years old and spent a summer in Spain. No doubt Bea won the DIL lottery
Absolutely! And I have a feeling that Max, Laurentien, and Mabel all won the MIL lottery Yes

In the past Beatrix was considered to be selective and strict with regard to the women her sons were dating. For example the issue(s) with Emily are well described in the (gossip) press.

IMO Laurentien had it easy. She had the extra pro that she is the daughter of Beatrix's friends Laurens Jan & Jantien Brinkhorst. Jantien was a fellow student of the University of Leiden and befriended Bea.

Princess Laurentien finds herself a strict mother

Princess Laurentien finds herself a strict mother. That's according to her crucial. "The rules and boundaries are clear with me and I am consistent."
So says the 50-year-old princess in the magazine Naar school (= to school), where she is guest editor. "It still lies in love and trust, not perfection."

According Laurentien you have to show children by example. "Show that you have fun too in itself and also contribute. I want the kids help to set the table and clearing it for example, so I'll do it myself."

Laurentien has three children with husband prince Constantijn: Eloise (14), Claus-Casimir (12) and Leonore (10). Laurentien has the tasks in the household well distributed. "My husband can cook very well I never put effort into learning it right I am the organizer. Mommy controls it well, the children say, but the division of labor is very organic;.... We meet in the middle . "

Laurentien calls her husband "her anchor." "I think he will say the same about me. There is balance. We seem to be quite similar, but each in a different jacket," said Laurentien.

The theme of Naar school is 'children to speak'. " "Children think pure and ask without judgment pointed questions. I also notice that as a mother. They are not the boss, but keep me focused and continue to surprise me."

"Children think positive and are cheerful. And that is exactly what we are all looking for, at home and at work," concludes the princess.

On April 11, 2017, Princess Laurentien of the Missing Chapter Foundation, attends the launch of the pilot municipalities Leiden, The Hague, Deventer, Groningen and Breda to appoint a Board of Children, in Leiden. These boards usually consist of upper primary school pupils, who advise the municipalities on all sorts of topics.

Apologies if this is not the rightt place. This is an old video, from 2013, of Laurentien at Flora Fauna International event, giving a welcoming speeech.

I think all Beatrix's daughters-in-law are very good and very engaging public speakers! Her DILs are some of the better public speakers in the West European royal world I find.... Good ad libs, pleasant speaking timbre and tone.

What is also interesting is in her speech,
she mentioned she uses a "mind map" in addition to traditional form of prepared speech text.
Here Laurentien is welcoming the speaker, David Attenborough.

I completely agree.  She sounds very American to me too.

IIRC, she went to university at UC Berkeley and lived in the US for a few years.  I wonder if that is why.

Princess Laurentien head guest Broadcasting MAX - program "Final editing"

Princess Laurentien is the first main guest of the new Omroep MAX- program "Final editing". In it, together with a television team, she makes a full-fledged television program as editor-in-chief, the broadcaster announces Tuesday.

As theme, Laurentien has chosen to make different groups of 'invisible people' visible.

"It's great to do," says the princess. "The bar is high and it is very exciting to get a good picture of such a complex theme, I am deeply touched by the extraordinary stories and frank insights that hopefully many people will open their eyes."

The episode of Laurentien is on Monday at NPO 1 to see. A week later Normaal-singer Bennie Jolink is next.

National Reading Days this year digitally, but with Princess Laurentien

Princess Laurentien has traditionally opened the National Reading Days. Because of the corona pandemic, she did not do this among a group of children, but online. Via a video connection she read this morning to a group of toddlers and preschoolers from the book Coco is possible!

Coco can do it! van Loes Riphagen is the picture book of the year 2021 and it has been translated into Turkish, Arabic and Polish.

The book is about a little bird that still has to learn everything. "Toddlers and pre-schoolers also have to do a lot of things for the first time and that is very exciting", says Riphagen in the NOS Radio 1 Journaal. "They have to figure it all out and if you practice really well, you get better and that's what Coco does in the book."

Read a lot
"I think it is a picture book that can give many families fun and hopefully also inspiration, especially in these special circumstances when we all have to stay at home," says the writer. "I hope that many parents, grandfathers and grandmothers and teachers will read to their children, live or via a screen."

Mayor Aboutaleb of Rotterdam, Minister of Education Slob and well-known Dutch people such as rapper Willy Wartaal, Diederik Jekel, Janny van der Heijden and Lieke van Lexmond are also committed online to make the importance of reading clear again.
