It's about time that fabulous Fabiola has her own thread, so I'll start.

There is confirmation that Fabiola DID have plastic surgery on her nose, but it was not for Baudouin - it took place in 1950.

From SoirMag:
In every biography there are revelations. Firmin J. Urbiola, a Spanish journalist has delivered to the European Parliament a speech in honor of Queen Fabiola. Because for him she "symbolises everything Europe embodies".  That is what he explains in an interview with our partner, Flemish newspaper "De Morgen".  He devoted two years of his life to write a biography of the White Queen. She embodies for him the symbol of love and fidelity to her husband, beyond death, and to Belgium." Twenty years after the death of Baudouin, she has remained true to herself and to the Belgians. Why live in Belgium? You would think it would be more meaningful for her to live in Madrid, that life would be more pleasant and easy. But she is not involved in frivolities. She does not search the personal pleasure. She wants to be at the service of others." Despite the Queen's has refusal of his interview, the author has managed to penetrate her entourage and collect a few confidences. The author slipped in a few scoops on the personality of our fifth queen. We will learn that she had cosmetic surgery! It was in the year 1950. She reduced the size of her nose because she wanted to be more beautiful. This was very important at the time (standard for today) when ladies were roturiers. . This was clearly successful since she was able marry a King and enjoy his love until the end of his days.

Check out this picture of Fabiola with Silvia and tell me if you think anything about it.

Because, what I'M thinking is, Dang, Fabiola and Silvia don't look that far apart in age, in that picture. Now, I know there is quite a gap in ages, but if Fabiola had gone heavily on the plastic surgery route, I wonder what she'd look like. I really appreciate the royal ladies who age gracefully without taking a puff off the plastic surgery bong.

Fabiola still is a pretty lady even at this age. At least, imho.

Princess Grace

In her 50's letting the gray come naturally into her hair

Bea

Camilla

When you keep going the cutting route, you rob yourself of the ability for your character and life experiences to shine through your face in later maturity. I think it's a real pity.

And Sylvia

My GOD, that mouth!

I'm a huge Greta Garbo fan, and one of the pictures I really love of her is a crappy shot for a passport where I don't think she even combed her hair. It's crazy, but there's something about that shot when I think of the sum of her life experiences and how she wasn't owned by her beauty. It wasn't a cage for her.

Impossible to maintain beauty

Aging gracefully

Passport Photo

The thing I think is so remarkable about the crappy passport photo above is that even with straggly hair and no bra she looks beautiful because her face just always catches the light somehow.

Anyway, here's to the royal ladies who manage to age gracefully and with some style and class.  Champagne

Excuse this terrible picture of Fabiola's skeleton hand   Blink

The reason why I post it is because I believe what she did was have Baudouin's and her rings tied together with gold in the shape of Xs.

She also wears Baudouin's watch since his death. That's why in some pictures it shows she wears two watches.

this is really sweet (although she doesn't need 2 watches, with Baudouin's is enough)

Perhaps Baudouin's watch doesn't work anymore....

I enjoyed Fabiola's actions with the apple, when she was threatened to be shot by means of a crossbow.

It says her tiara from Spain had fake jewels which had to be replaced with real ones when it was discovered!
I also had no idea she was still alive, that's a lot of years to be a widow Sad

There were/are interchangeable sets of stones (which makes it one of the most versatile tiaras) and not all the stones were fake. Also, Baudouin got her a full set of Aquamarine to ease her pain.   Banana

Nuns owned the tiara before Fabiola?  That's kind of strange.  I guess some wealthy family donated it to the nuns.  Were the nuns honest about the stones when they sold it to Franco?  Kind of a funny thought.

Congratulations, Lellobeetle Star
