I'd love to spend a week or two at Alnwick Castle, between the library and the gardens (especially the Poison Garden) I'd be in heaven!

I like this guy.  He doesn't see the point of having a title and doesn't seem to like it when people address him as a titled person.  Thumb up

1.) I too love that library.

2.) The Duke sounds like a very down-to-earth man.  I like him.

3.) I may have a wee bit of a crush on his son, George.  Blush

I do love visiting a stately home or a castle but at the same time it does slightly whip up my more rebellious side to read about these families who are part of the famous 1% who own 70% of the land:http://www.todayifoundout...s-families-owned-england/

They were well and truly successful with their invasion/conquering!

How very jealous am I of that library. I have a bookshelf, at the very least, in every room. Some rooms are a whole wall of books. I like actually turning the pages and being able to flip back and forth in the story. I am presently having a re read of the Game of Thrones books.

If they started up a B&B that allowed access to the library, I would surely book in winter. About 2 weeks would be fine to peruse the library, select some volumes, read-read-read, return the volumes to the shelf, select more volumes, read, repeat. A cozy winter interlude with lap-blanket, fluffy sofa pillow, warm socks and a comfy stuffed chair with ottoman to while away the hours -- to be repeated in following winters.

OH. MY. GOSH!      I always dreamed of a library like that! Someone once asked me what a dream week would be and I said a library in an English country house. Seriously, I did. They thought I was completely nuts.  This library would be absolutely perfect!    16,000 book.      That would be my favorite room in the whole castle.  Wow!
