You do, Cyril, and a healthy respect for the past.

Okay, so, I might be one of those ‘strange’ women who didn’t know they were pregnant until well into their pregnancy (no offense if this has happened to you or someone you know). But the idea that I could actually be pregnant is absolutely ludicrous. For one thing, I’m turning 48 a week from today. For another, I just took a home pregnancy test yesterday, and it was negative. I didn’t bother with the 2nd stick, since these things are supposed to be 99% accurate.
But then I had a niggling feeling about it and looked up ‘failed pregnancy tests,’ and found out that being too hydrated can affect a urine test. I was worried about that because I do drink a lot of water (I live in a desert), so maybe that wasn’t the end of it. Obviously, I’m going to make an appt with my doctor as soon as possible, but, in the meantime, could somebody on here please tell me if my symptoms sound like pregnancy—or am I just nuts? I’ve never been pregnant, so I don’t know how it feels.
I’ve been experiencing dizziness, chest pains, heart palpitations, an increased heart rate (it was 116 at one point; I have an oximeter), heartburn and abdominal pains. I think my breasts are bigger. My waist has grown a good inch or so, even though I’ve actually lost 5-8 lbs since March, thus making it difficult to button up even the one pair of jeans that pretty much always fits me. And it’s like there’s something ‘in’ there, to the point that I’m having a hard time bending at the waist. I feel it constantly now, even when I’m not bending.
Um…thoughts?

Go and see a doctor, but it sounds like menopause. The first weeks in pregnancy feel as if your period is about to start - light cramping, you feel bloated and you might have problems with your circulation.

Sweetie, go see a doctor. It doesn't sound much like a pregnancy, and you haven't written anything about your bleeding. Have you missed you monthlies?

Take the second test, since you have it, but I’m with the others who say your symptoms don’t sound like pregnancy.

Okay, good to know, guys. That's what I thought at first, too. I'm sure my doctor can confirm one way or the other.

If you feel comfortable doing so, please post when you have an answer. I'm sure it's unsettling to not know what's going on, but to sense that something is.

Please let us know how you are. Thanks, guys. That means the world to me. I called the on-call doctor at my doctor's office and explained the problem. I told her I'd even taken a pregnancy test because it feels like something's trying to burst out of me. And it doesn't like me to bend or anything. Then I told her that about 15 years ago, I'd had an ovarian cyst that nobody knew about until it burst. It was horrifically painful. I was told that I might develop another one. Then I explained that I have some pain on my left side that's been there a while that they've scanned every which way trying to figure out, but that what's bothering me now is this fullness in my entire lower abdomen that, if it isn't a baby, it's got to be something like a cyst or a tumor. And she told me that heaviness in the abdomen like that says ovarian to her and that I needed to go to the hospital. And I made her reiterate that just to make sure I understood her, and she said that if I have another ovarian cyst, then I need to know that sooner rather than later. I said that my mom was out with the car, but would be back soon, and asked if I need to call the paramedics, and she said that it wasn't that much of an emergency and that I could wait for my mom. So, that's what I'm doing. As soon as my mom gets back, I'm going to ask her to take me to the hospital. I'll let you guys know what happened on the other side.

Praying for you even now, that you'll find answers and healing soon, and a sense of peace in the waiting.

Please keep us posted, Casie. We Dishers are here for each other and many of us are around the same age (40s and up?). The collective wisdom here is off the chain. You are right to find out. Women know their bodies and when things don't feel right--most of the time.
