Prince Michael of Greece has died (aged 85).  He had a very interesting life.  He was the youngest grandchild of George I of Greece.  His first cousins ranged from George II (born 1890) to the duke of Edinburgh to the duchess of Kent to Xenia of Russia...

The range in age is amazing:  1890 to 1939 --all first cousins!

Sad news. it is truly an incredible age range. To think that Prince Michael and Prince Philip were both first cousins of GD Dmitry Pavlovich who was 'present' at the murder of Rasputin really brings that home.

Sad news. it is truly an incredible age range. To think that Prince Michael and Prince Philip were both first cousins of GD Dmitry Pavlovich who was 'present' at the murder of Rasputin really brings that home.

Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich of Russia (Russian: Великий Князь Дмитрий Павлович; 18 September 1891 – 5 March 1942) was the second child and only son of Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich and his first wife, Grand Duchess Alexandra Georgievna of Russia, born Princess Alexandra of Greece and Denmark. Dmitri's father, Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich, was the youngest child of Tsar Alexander II of Russia and his first wife, Empress Maria Alexandrovna of Russia, née Princess (Maximiliane Wilhelmine Auguste Sophie) Marie of Hesse and by Rhine. Dmitri's mother, Alexandra, was a daughter of George I of Greece and Olga Konstantinovna of Russia. Through his friendship with Felix Yusupov, he took part in the assassination of the peasant mystic and alleged warlock Grigori Rasputin, who was seen to have an undue and insidious influence on the Tsar and his wife.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, later Philip Mountbatten; 10 June 1921 – 9 April 2021), was the husband of Queen Elizabeth II. As such, he was the consort of the British monarch from his wife's accession on 6 February 1952 until his death in 2021, making him the longest-serving royal consort in history. Philip's father was the fourth son of King George I and Queen Olga of Greece, and his mother was the eldest child of Louis Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Milford Haven, and Victoria Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven (formerly Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine)

Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark, RE (Greek: Μιχαήλ; 7 January 1939 – 28 July 2024) was a Greek prince, historian, and author.  Michael was born in Rome to Prince Christopher of Greece and Denmark , and his second wife Princess Françoise d'Orléans of France  His father was the youngest son of King George I  and and Queen Olga of Greece. His mother was a daughter of the Orleanist claimant to the defunct French throne, Prince Jean d'Orléans, Duke of Guise

The other daughter Alexandra was also there, with her husband and sons who *were* mentioned in the article.

I always enjoyed reading about Michel and his family.

Barely fifteen minutes after the balcony scene on Prinsjesdag, Máxima and Amalia had already taken off their dresses and were on their way to Greece. They celebrated the life of Marianna Vardinoyannis, the Greek neighbor (who founded the Elpida children's cancer center) who passed away last summer.
Also attended by Queen Anne-Maria and other members of the Greek Royal Family.
