Lady Tatiana is expecting a baby!

It got me to thinking about the Mountbattens/Battenbergs.  There aren't any Battenbergs left.  There are only three male Mountbattens:  the marquess of Milford Haven, the earl of Medina and Lord Ivar Mountbatten.  The earl is still unmarried.

There aren't even any Hesse-Darmstadts left (the German family they came from).  I wonder why Lord Mountbatten didn't ask his sons-in-law to change their names; his ego was certainly substantial and I'm surprised he didn't make an effort not to let the name die out (though it will live on in the title).

Perhaps because he was arrogant enough to think he would live forever.

Or he felt having the name in the title (Earl Mountbatten of Burma) was enough. Especially after he lost the big battle of changing the Windsors' last name to Mountbatten.

George Mountbatten, 4th Marquess of Milford Haven plays polo. Julian Hipwood has coached his teams.

Lady Pamela Hicks must be in her mid-90s now. Is she ever still seen in public? I think she may have been at the Queen's funeral, but clearly has dropped off the radar since then.

Interesting article in "Tatler" from last April about Pamela Hicks. She is still living at her country home "The Grove" in Oxfordshire. The last time I saw pictures of her was at the funeral service of the late Queen.

She popped up again just before the coronation, because she had attended the last one but wasn't invited to this one.

I don't think a ten year old and his eleven year old cousin could really have had a romance.  A crush, maybe.

I think Louis Mountbatten later on very much romanticised their relationship.

What were some the things Lord Louis romanticized?
