I think Mountbatten romanticized a lot of things.

What were some the things Lord Louis romanticized?

the Nehru collar.

Seeing Lady Alexandra Hooper at Constantine's memorial today made me think about her married name --and how I always associate it with "Brideshead Revisited," and the Hooper character in the book.  Anyone else?  Whistle

I think he romanticized his importance in the BRF.

Apparently one of his favourite hobbies was to study his family tree.  You have to admit, he *did* have an extraordinary career.  It really took off, once he ditched Edward VIII, and WWII started.

That even William has given both of his sons the name Louis is extraordinary to me. He himself has the name. William seems to enjoy bucking the system but Lord Louis looms large for this next generation of British kings.

Please define bucking the system.

Cyril I can't find who wrote the phrase you are asking about but...bucking the system to my understanding means rejecting what ever system you are under or have to observe. the imagery is of a horse or anything 4 legged bucking or kicking with hind leggs whoever or wotever is behind  - hence rejecting by kicking it over.

hope that helps.

It is a 'semi-royal' wedding !

The tiara is a family heirloom. As Celia rightly said, unfortunately it is a bit lost in the veil frame. The bride wears it like her mother did

The tiara came to the Mountbattens through Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, daughter of Queen Victoria and aunt to Prince Philip's grandmother.   Princess Louise had a soft spot for the Battenbergs and at the beginning of World War One, Victoria Battenberg was in Russia visiting her sister.  Victoria quickly returned to England leaving her jewels in Russia for safekeeping.  We all know what happened there.  So, without much left in the way of jewellery, Princess Louise gave Victoria one of Louise's own tiaras.  I have never seen a photo of either Princess Louise or Victoria wearing the tiara.

BTW, does anyone know the identity of the elderly woman whom Nicholas Knatchbull is escorting?

It was informative to learn that the tiara had belonged to Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll.
