There's a photo of India's sons helping with hurricane relief.  The boy on the right looks SO MUCH like a Battenberg --the nose and the mouth.  He looks like Princess Sophie of Greece, Philip's youngest sister.  Incredible how these genes still come through.

I loved Pamela Hicks' books, Daughter of Empire and India Remembered (written with her daughter India) - she has had an interesting life. And reading about her mother Edwina, I came to admire her, too, her generosity and will power.

ETA: I see only now that the books have been recommended before, sorry - but I second that recommendation! :-)

Pamela Hicks has also done a podcast with her daughter called
The India Hicks podcast. Its certainly shows how the upper classes treat their children differently!

Always found it interesting how common and popular beards were for English royals born in the 19th century up to the generation that came in the late 1880s and early 1890s and on eschewed beards and went clean shaven. The Duke of Gloucester was the only one of his brothers to grow facial hair and his was only a mustache.

Even their continental peers--no beard for Olav of Norway, nor the 4 Swedish princes, Leopold and Charles of Belgium. Beards definitey went off trend after the first world war!

This surprised me. Apparently it happened in January but only made the press now due to India’s guilty plea.

Very surprising. I wonder what India's oh so proper mother had to say about it. Her explanation sounds weird but believable. She really doesn't need to steal coats, she's so rich and may have really been absent-minded. Strange nevertheless.

I wish the court had made her return some of the Crabtree and Evelyn scents I loved, didn't she take over the brand at some point? or work with them? Can't really remember it but I always had a weak spot for their body mists. That would have been a great sentence, "bring back Savannah Gardens at a great price! and all is forgiven!"
