King Albert I worked with the Belgian Ministry of Internal Affairs to create the King Albert Housing Fund for Communities that had been destroyed.

In 1909 Albert of Belgium traveled to the recently annexed Belgian Congo to see the situation for himself and what conditions were like for the natives.
