The fact that both parents cancelled appointments and that Bernhard's royal duties are on hold IMO should not be overrated. The diagnose, even if treatments promise to be effective is still a huge shock. I can very well understand that nothing else but sorting the entire thing out and concentrating on their son and his little family is of the utmost importance to them, canceling out anything else. Meeting with charities or opening some event just isn't so imperative, but I assume, that in a short while when they have gathered enough information to deal with the disease, they will likely proceed with their daily work.
Every person responds somewhat differently to treatment, every disease is somewhat unique. I hope that Bernhard and his family will find his treatment effective and as little exhaustive as possible and I wish them all a speedy recovery.
To all posters with first hand experience:
cancer in any form is a bitch. I am very glad to hear most of you have come out of the battle victorious. Salute!
