KP using the phrase 'new normal' makes me want to hurl. No. It is not 'new normal,' which insinuates this will be forever (I know lots of people want that and here in the USA I expect it to be permanent)...

Good to see him out and about supporting business.

It is being used here is Australia as well..... it is less about it being like “this” forever, and more about the fact that things will most likely never “go back” to what we knew before all this. The reality is this virus will be around forever, and we will have to rethink they way we do some things.

I like the fact that they've engaged a bit more with the Norfolk community during this crisis

If there is no vaccine it will be forever.

There is no guarantee that a vaccine will be developed. Sure there are about 200 in development but that doesn't mean that any will actually be successful. I hope a couple are but it isn't a given.

A vaccine is a given but it won’t work on everyone and also, not everyone will take the vaccine. Not everyone gets a regular flu vaccine. Not everyone even gets their children vaccinated against mumps, measles, etc.

There is already a new strain of Covid19 right now. It’s not a more deadly strain but, apparently, more contagious.

So, yeah, masks, especially for the vulnerable is the new normal. Kind of like how flying the way we fly now became the new normal after 9/11 and the shoe bomber.

Excellent point. News stories are slowly coming out saying that treatments are getting much better and fatality rates should come down, but nothing firm on a vaccine.

A vaccine is not a given. No epidemiologist has ever said that there is a more than 50/50 change of a vaccine.

The scientists have been trying to find a vaccine for human corona viruses for nearly 90 years ... since the first was identified in the 1930s and they haven't yet been successful. They have had 40 years to work on a vaccine for HIV and still no vaccine.

I’m of the opinion we need to live with it, as we do influenza. It still shocks me the world went insane following an authoritarian communist government in imprisoning their citizens...

I think the vaccine that is the one everyone’s looking at is from Oxford, but I think it just eases symptoms and makes you, potentially, far less ill. Sort of like Tamiflu. And we know 80% or so are asymptomatic anyway. I can’t tell you the many I know who have antibodies and were never ill!

If this is forever we’ll see loads of dead from suicide that’s for sure and I’ll be among them. Mental health isn’t important anymore to people...

AstraZeneca has plans to distribute their vaccine as early as this fall. I don’t want to be the cheerleader for the pharma companies but I do believe they will come up with an effective vaccine. There is a lot of money being directed at this vaccine and the vaccine would make millions since everyone on the planet are potential customers.

HIV, otoh, do not have a boatload of customers. If you were not in a high risk group to get HIV, would you get the vaccine each year?

My point is that developing vaccines are predominantly done by private companies that have a goal of making money. It’s the sad truth. So I would not put all vaccines in the same blanket category as “they didn’t get this vaccine so they won’t get that one.”

Aside from money, there are also political/governmental regulations in vaccine distribution. It can get very complicated.

William and Kate should be doing visits like this, nice to see they aren’t just sitting in their estate swimming and playing tennis.
