One of these Twitter videos was William going to a workshop of people drawing and coloring “what a home means to them”.  Obviously, William could not participate in that little workshop (as drawing KP or Amner is ridiculous). His staff really needs to vet exactly what is going on in workshops. To me, it was glaring that this was going to be a problem for William as soon as he walked in.

"Home" to me doesn't mean a physical structure. It usually means so much more than just a roof over your head. It can mean security, being with your family, feeling ownership over a space. I don't see a major problem with this being the workshop he participated in.

He could have drawn a stick family figure of Kate and the kids as his family and it would have gone over extremely well.

William drawing stick figures of the 4 other most privileged people in the UK to show to the homeless? I don’t know who that would have gone over “extremely well” with. 😬

I think most people would understand the concept of a person drawing their family to represent "home" for them. I'd say his idea of home is far more complicated than the houses he has. But anyway.

Most patrons of charities are going to being better off than the majority of people the organisation they're trying to support even if they have the condition that the charity is trying to combat. If leaders and reps only stuck to things they know then they'd be visiting a very small slice of society.

Seyi Obakin, CEO of Centre Point came out in William's defence after the events of March 2021 saying that he had known William for over 10 years and he (William) had spent time with his family and time getting to understand the problem of homelessness. We can see that he's done a lot of different events with them over the years and if his Big Issue stunt gave him any insight into what it's like to stand at a street corner whilst so many people actively pretend you don't exist or encouraged a few people to pick one up from a local seller, then it was worth it.

I don't get the criticism of this visit. Should he just not help draw attention to an issue because he hasn't personally experienced it? This is a cause he's been involved with for decades. He chose to have his 40th birthday pictures be about it rather than an official portrait. I'd rather him be engaged on something and want to find solutions than just spend all of his time on red carpets because he can relate to celebrities more.

An excellent point crownjewel. William is picking up the baton that his mother handed him as a small child so we are seeing the fruits of more than three decades of relationships. Diana knew she was planting the seed of a tree that is blooming now. If only there were the same criticism of policies that lead to the billionaire class and wealth gap that exacerbates homelessness. It is absolutely William's role in a modern monarchy to continue to support and help shine a spotlight on society's difficult issues. Our role is to not bounce that light back to him but to hold elected accountable on these issues. Indeed if it is the issue that bothers us and not a rich man connecting on a personal level with people the rest of us refuse to look in the eye.

That what I will always give Diana credit for, that she wasn't afraid of dealing with people that live on the fringes of society, outliers.

Pretty sure everyone at the event knew that the future king doesn’t have any issues with housing. So not sure what the criticism is, other than people just wanting to criticize.

I agree totally. There is nothing wrong with simply observing a class/exercise etc. Talking to the participants did more good than any sitting down and drawing would ever do.

Both parties no doubt recognized it was not a good 'hands on' moment.

Amen I was just thinking this. You can feel homeless in the in the biggest house and feel so rich in love in the tiniest home.

He could have drawn his family and been done with it. Not doing it seems to have brought more attention to it.
