I used to think Harald would before JC (because of JC's ego) but if a divorce is looking for H&MM, he might hold on for a little longer to let the dust settle.

I can't see Hakoon and MM getting old together ... so Harald will hang in there. ITA.

Juan Carlos: my dodgy past is rapidly catching up with me and I am out of here while I still can.  Nerves

Exactly...

IMO there won't be another abdication for another 10 years at least. That's the absolute soonest I could see Henri deciding to hand things over. All the other monarchs from countries that don't have a history of abdication (Liz, Marg, Harald, CG, H-A, Albert) will be in it until the end, I think.
Albert really waited much too long to start a family. For the sake of the twins I hope he has a long and healthy life/reign like QE2. Don't think abdiacation will ever be an option for him.
I also doubt there will be abdications in Denmark or Norway. Regency is a real option if there are health problems but I don't see MII and Harald abdicating, it seems to go against their concept of monarchy..

I don't think any of the older remaining Euro monarchs will abdicate.  I think it would be an Eastern monarch like the King of Thailand or the King of Jordan, probably for political reasons, not for personal reasons, ie a coup or some such civil disturbance.

Marge isn't the type of woman who is able to take a backseat imo. It would drive her mad - and poor Frodo too. So its better for all persons concerned if she just stays in controll.

If I was Marge I would reign till I'd die and if it was only to avoid seeing the coronation of King Peter Pan ... eh Frodo and the Blair Witch ... eh ... okay, you know .... That will be such an akward day.

If my memory serves me right the Danish way to do it is a balcony appearance after the old monarch has died and that's it. In case of an abdication they would have to be innovative. Imagine Marge and Mares fighting over a pompous gig and cry baby Fred sitting in the corner having a nervous breakdown cause you know he never wanted to be king. Epic.  Icecream

You are right ... but the scenario in case of abdication ... hillarious ... most likely Mares would turn up by herself and do the work ....

He did have health issues a few years back as well. I believe Haakon is ready but I'm not sure if MM would be.

MM is so lazy - you would hardly ever see her. She'd be the absentee queen. Not the worst scenario IMO. At least Hakoon is ready and nice.
