If Harald doesn't abdicate, then I think it will be awhile before we see another abdication. I think it will be Henri of Luxembourg in about 10 years. Marge has said repeatedly that she's not abdicating-ever. Same for QEII. I believe them. Marge is so delusional that she'll definitely not accept not being the reigning monarch while she's still living. I think CG should step down, but I can't imagine him doing so. I think this might be it for awhile. I think that Alois and HA of Liechtenstein will continue to job-share until HA dies. IIRC, that's what HA and his father did

I hope E II abdicates soon. i don't want to see C&C on the throne really, but it could be entertaining, you know. E II has zero fun factor for me, but lizards stay strong. And these 2 oddities in Sweden could also move away. I like Daniel, he's cute with his glasses and and ties and so on. Nice bum too, they could make another baby. Queen Elizabeth II will never, ever abdicate. She's made it clear many times over her life that she views being a monarch is a job for life. Also unlike any other monarchs the British monarch is consecrated during their coronation and with the Queen being a very strong christian, she would see abdication as breaking her vow with God. Also there is another practical reason why the Queen will never abdicate, she is head of state of over a dozen countries which means each country would have to pass a bill through their parliament to modify their 'demise of the crown acts' to include abdication as a possible reason for succession. When Edward VIII abdicated, Britain was still the 'mother parliament' for the Dominions so it was Britain that passed legislation that would be applied in all the realms so the paperwork was very easy, today it would be near impossible (most of the commonwealth realms have yet to place legislation giving girls the same right as boys to the throne). I have a hunch that CG in Sweden will abdicate within the next 10 years.

I don't see Carl Gustav abdicating any sooner. I'd love to see Victoria as Queen but Estelle is much too young to be Crown Princess and having as many hands as possible doing work would be much better.

Yes I agree that Carl Gustav would likely wait until Estelle is older and allow Victoria and Daniel to have another child[ren], but for some reason I don't see him reigning for life. He doesn't seem to have the commitment or love of his position to go for life. Also if any more scandals about him come out, he will probably have to do a Juan Carlos in an attempt to save the monarchy. For better or for worse, I think the current generation of older monarchs (Elizabeth, Harald and Margrethe) will be the last European monarchs to die in office. I think abdication will become the norm (even Prince Charles has hinted in the past he might not reign for life to allow William to come to throne before he's an old man).

Juan Carlos : I'm abdicating because I don't want Felipe to fade away (to waste away) waiting, like Charles of England does !!!!

Urgh, I hope there are no more abdications - what happened to duty and sacrifice and promises? I forgive JC because he obviously isn't well but Beatrix? Throwing her son into that position when his children are still so young was unforgivable in my book. Although I love Queen Max, so there's that QEII made a promise to her country at the age of 21 and will never go back on it - Margarethe has said she remembers that vow and that it influenced her greatly.

Wax was hardly thrown into his position and his mother is still there in the background. The Dutch RF works like a team , they don't have the internal spats like the other RF.The Dutch RF has lucked out with that strict media-code which allows the girls to live a very normal life and i don't think their lives have really changed now their parents are King & Queen. We don't get pictures/tweets of Max doing her groceries or shopping or get a constant stream of news of the girls.

Let's face it - all the abdications happened now where the new kind and queen are bith a safe bet and able to pull their new role of. If you look:
England: Charles - yes, Waity and Wills - no way Norway: Hakoon - yes, MM - no Denmark: Frodo - no, never, Mares - no
Sweden: Silvia would die not being queen for longer, Estelle is too small.

Margarethe has said she remembers that vow and that it influenced her greatly. It sure hasn't influenced her to work like QEII.

I think Vikkan and Dan could step up at this point in time, and I think that they'd do a fine job. Fred can barely seem to function at the moment; Guillaume of Lux seems too immature. His wife is a lot like Fred in terms of barely being able to function. I don't know anything about the middle eastern or Japanese royals. Alois of Liechtenstein is pretty much the de-facto head prince, so I think that he and his wife would be fine if Hans-Adam abdicated. Those are the only thrones I can think of at the moment. I doubt we'll see anybody abdicate until Henri of Luxembourg. That's the only other European nation with a tradition of abdication. I hope he doesn't abdicate for a long, long time. His son and daughter-in-law have a lot of growing up to do.

Carl Gustav. Victoria and Daniel are hardly doing 200 engagements a year or i must have missed it. I think when Estelle turns four , Vicky and Daniel could easily ascend the throne and take over. Would the change be really that big ? CG just seems to be hanging about , with no real direction .

Juan Carlos: my dodgy past is rapidly catching up with me and I am out of here while I still can. Exactly... IMO there won't be another abdication for another 10 years at least. That's the absolute soonest I could see Henri deciding to hand things over. All the other monarchs from countries that don't have a history of abdication (Liz, Marg, Harald, CG, H-A, Albert) will be in it until the end, I think.

I used to think Harald would before JC (because of JC's ego) but if a divorce is looking for H&MM, he might hold on for a little longer to let the dust settle.
