Some aspects of the Spanish media may think that Letizia's divorce and career are negatives but I think on a wider scale a lot of international outlets would disagree.
Despite the fact she has never courted the media I think a lot of them will take interest in her, partly because she is one of their own, but also on a more basic level she "represents" the modern working woman in many countries.
Plus here in the UK we're saddled with a useless princess who seems to have the intelligence of a doorknob. By contrast Letizia is a woman with style, personality and flaws. That makes her very appealing to the press.
JMO.
Tsk tsk, Little_star. That's DUTCHESS DOORKNOBSTANTE to you!

Queen-in-waiting Letizia steps into brighter spotlighthttp://entertainthis.usat...ing-letizia-in-spotlight/"And not just in Spain. American media are thrilled to have another compelling royal to cover. They’re blaring headlines about glamorous Letizia, 41, comparing her to look-alike beauty Duchess Kate and discussing her style (very chic), her background (middle-class), and her past (a career as a TV anchor, and a previous marriage and divorce)." There is no comparison - Kate will never be as accomplished as Letizia was before her marriage.

Leti is the real deal. At the time of the engagement, wasn't she anchoring the top news show in Spain?

Blah! I think these proWaity news outlets are trying to compare female royals to Diana, through Waity - mostly in the fame, glitz and glamor sense. Whoever married Nobstante the Horse was going to be the reference Princess for the english speaking world. Waity has her mother-on-law to thank for any remote interest in her... and it isn't even interest about her as a person, it's all about who she married and who she is the daughter-in-law of. They can try to associate and compare hard working women like Melinda Gates and Letizia all they want but Waity will never be like them. I feel sorry for Melinda and Letizia - being used to prop up Waity.

I think it's more that a lot of the UK based media outlets have realised that Kate isn't actually that popular here and a lot of people dislike her. So they need another female royal that they can look to for inspiration. JMO.

I meant the news outlets which are doing the comparing and making it out like they are equally good (or Waity is better). I agree with you, more and more media are turning against Waity as an inspiration and role model source, Letizia is a much better replacement.

This Telegraph article is full of factual errors that most RDishers could pick out. But it has the right idea: Princess Letizia: the commoner who could save Spain's tarnished crownhttp://www.telegraph.co.u...ains-tarnished-crown.html"Yet Letizia has plenty going for her. In particular, she is widely seen to be a critic of the old royal order, and is credited with keeping Felipe’s own reputation squeaky clean." Someone actually gives Letizia credit for something!

I think Leti and Queen Rania of Jordan look more like sisters.

Let's archive the Daily Mail article that triggers several articles defending Letizia that I posted above: Who'll be queen of style? She looks and dresses just like Kate - and is equally middle class. But Spain's new queen has far more skeletons in HER closethttp://www.dailymail.co.u...skeletons-HER-closet.html1298 comments before DM stopped accepting comments. My non-scientific survey says 90% of those comments are pro Letizia and/or against Waity. There's an action, there must be a reaction.

It is the gem among all those articles on Letizia in just the past 5 days. It was triggered by the DM article. It could have been written by a RDisher.
