Gee, wouldn't that hat fit almost as good? No need to go and buy another pink lampshade.

Wink.
Go big or go home is not only Maximas Motto.
That's why I don't like the small turbans.
But I guess, yes, when & if the hat is bigger than the 70 cm space you have available at lunch table, think again before leaving the house.

As for the muppets, I really see a pattern here. We had Big Bird, Kermit, Elmo, we had sth similar to the Beast behind the drumkit - what's next? Sth nude with red & orange like Beaker?
Would just require a nude dress with orange accents and a bit of hair dye ...

Anyhow, todays hat is not new. She wore in in May 2014 already at a function in NL:

The dress is lovely ...
The dress however looks awfully familiar, I believe we have seen it on other cps perhas in offwhite (Mary? or Vickan?) Letizia has a similar dress either or both in pinkish and in grey, iIrc?Huh??
After a quick check, wash your mouth with soap, its Natan  Wink.

I also thought it looks familar, Mathilde wore a similar number in orange-pinkish once, also Vic has similars in blue and offwhite ... but I guess we can be sure that Leti never ever wore Natan.

But, yes, obviously also Natan gets it right SOMETIME.

BTW, the Muppets. Tonight's state banquet, tiara alert, and guess what she wears?

Max wearing a repeated dress iirc Thinking and huge tiara Yikes I think she needs to learn that sometimes less is more. Lately she's just overdressed almost every event. Also something looks different on her face Snare

What's the man behind Max&WA doing? Is he a interpreter? Otherwise I think it's a little rude that Max is giving him so much attention.

This pink hat of princess Maria Laura of Belgium (Archduchess of Austria Este) is a real lampshade to me:

I actually prefer the huge wagon wheel hat because it's titled up in the front, so her face and smile is seen.  Today's hat hides her face, which must be tough for the press photographers.

It reminds me of the famous Grace Kelly Monaco arrival hat that hide her face...the press were not happy.

Some more photos from Day 1.

On the first day of their State Visit, WA & Max laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and visited the Warsaw Uprising Museum and the General Maczek Monument, where they also met and spoke with WWII veterans who liberated Breda and the southern Netherlands 70 years ago.

The dress is from a jan2012 state dinner in malaysia. I believe the designer is benito fernandez.

She should have swapped earrings between the day and evening events and considered a small sized hat, not a satellite dish.

In the evening they attended a State Banquet with the President and First Lady of Poland.

Hhm, the evening dress is nothing to write home about. I am not keen on those lopsided designs, and with her hairstyle she carries it on. But she has certainly given up simple elegance.

The pic of WA holding the speech is funny: looks like he was boring them to tears. The guy next to him is halfway in a coma, and Maxima makes a face as if she would prefer to be home to shave her armpits.

There is something very vulgar and nouveau riche about Maxima there is no reason to wear your huge expensive ball earrings to a day event just like that wedding of her brother just cause you can really does not mean you should

She has no idea of what is proper and seems insecure these days

Honestly, 'because she can' is the only reason she should wear them*. Who's Queen after all?  Wink

As for vulgarity etc.: only when you know the rules you can ignore them and tread on them. It's a little upper class thingy, much like Watercress dressing like she's a street worker/off to paint the walls of her new appartment and nobody thinking ill of it. I'm told that Wax is a very messy eater, and just look at the way even The Bee holds her wine glass - nowhere in polite society would one do either. Then again, the DRF are miles above polite society (which is a bourgeois concept).

So darling Max fits right in, whether she's aware of any rules/protocol or not...

* besides, much like unusual words, diamonds need to be used to have their existence confirmed.

IA. I don't follow her closely but in the past she just seemed flamboyant (in a good way) to me, now she comes across as in your face and flashy.

Think the hat is ok for the arrival and outdoor stuff, however she should have taken it off once inside ...
