These images of George VI at his coronation certainly convince me of the prudence of Charles' choice not to wear knee breeched for his big day.  Just don't think they would work in the 21st century.

The Duchess of Beaufort was born Princess Mary of Teck. She was the second child of the Duke of Teck and Lady Mary Grosvenor. She was the niece of Queen Mary. In 1917 she became Lady Mary Cambridge.

The London 1948 was the first Summer Olympics held since the 1936 Berlin Games, following a 12 years hiatus caused by the outbreak of World War II.

For 2025, The Royal Mint is issuing a 5 pound coin commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Queen Mother's birth. Charles will no doubt be both pleased and a bit pensive, as he adored his grandmother and probably still misses her at times. She'd be tickled to be commemorated and particularly proud since Charles' likeness is of course on the front of the coin.

In the article introducing the coin they've used a picture of her I've not seen before, wearing a brooch I'm not familiar with either. She seems youngish, I'd guess it's taken sometime in the '30s. I cannot pull the picture from the article so have a look here:

Lady Liebe, I just did some research for pictures of Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in the 1930s. No photograph matched the picture in the article.

I wasn't able to turn up the picture either, but I suppose the Royal Mint has access to photos we've not seen.  Smiley

I did find these from their trip to Canada and the US in 1939. I believe she is wearing the same coat as in the unknown picture.

Gosh isn't it weird that in the first picture I see Danish Princess Isabella's eyes and face. Not as much in the second picture. Gosh Eleanor Roosevelt and the Queen Mum that conversation was either robust & interesting or dull as dirt.

I remember reading something about each of them wearing wool dresses and found this:

In the picture on Royal Mint website I see Eugenie's eyes looking out at me from the Queen Mum's face. . .

23 years ago. On 30 March 2002, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother died at the Royal Lodge, Windsor, aged 101, following a chest cold since Christmas 2001.

At 101 years and 238 days old she was the first member of the British royal family to live past the age of 100.
