Anastasia, Thank you! In 1937 George VI and Elizabeth had not been King and Queen for an extremely long time yet.

Throughout her childhood, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon and her siblings played with the royal children like Princess Mary and Prince Albert. It was not uncommon when she was young for members of the royal family to stay at Glamis Castle.

In 1939 King George VI became the first reigning British monarch to set foot on American soil. He and Queen Elizabeth visited President and Mrs. Franklin Roosevelt.

So I'm working my way through Ken Burn's Country Music - because I only saw some episodes when it came out.

In the second episode, which covers the Great Depression and WWII, they have a segment about the Saturday night Barn Dance shows that were broadcast over the radio, and especially the WLS Chicago National Barn Dance and all the stars that came from there.

One group is the first all female string band known as (I kid you not) Lily May Ledford and the Coon Creek Girls.
They were so popular they were chosen to play for King George VI at the White House. Lilly May said she was nervous, until she saw King George tapping his feet.

I think it's cute.
