I didn't generally find anything that new in that link, honestly. I think everyone knows QEQM loved her gin, so it follows that she'd be sozzled quite a bit now and again. Billy's antics (for lack of a better word off the top of my head) has been known for years. Who knows how true the "details" in this link are? And why are we supposed to care now, when QEQM has been dead for what, almost 15 years now?

Of course, it *is* the Daily Fail, so...

Well. I'm glad she had someone who loved her and took care of her.
If they bonded over drinking, who cares, it obviously didn't effect her lifespan.
If he did it for money , prestige or for love- wouldn't most of us want our old age to be like this. And not a nursing home?

As usual the the Grey Men wedged him out but thankfully Prince Charles "rescued" him after her death.

I see a lot of Beatrice and Eugenie in the younger photos of QM.

The royals have ALWAYS hung out with anyone BUT the middle classes. They have much more in common with "rough trade" than with bankers and lawyers and dentists!

I think the picture is so sweet.  I've read that the Queen keeps a framed print on her desk.  Smiley

I think it's quite sad that Charles probably has no memories of his maternal grandfather, or of Prince Philip's father, come to that. George obviously adored his grandchildren and he should have been able to have many years with them.

Well, yeah, it'd be kinda hard for Charles to have memories if Phil's fsther, considering he died in 1944... Wink

Wouldn't it be great in a year or two to see a similar photo of Charles with George??

I feel sad that King George VI died so young (at least to me). He probably didn't want to be King, and when he did become King, he had to contend with trying to build up the monarchy's reputation after the abdication  crisis, and then World War 2. Then as everything was settling down, he develops cancer, and dies. In the later pictures of him, he just looks so gaunt, and unhealthy. No wonder why the Queen Mother blamed the Duke and Duchess of Windsor for her husbands early death.

I know what you mean. Bertie should never have been force into being something he didn't want and was not prepared for. That said, he was very much loved and respected, probably more so than David would have been had he remained King and married Wallis.
