thanks little star and clara
that thread has not been written in for a loooooooooooong time  Yikes

clara does the spanish royal family have jewellery like the dutch.... is it true that all the jewellery is queen sofia's personal property does letizia not get them now that she is queen

i thought i would add the earrings from the france visit.... it seems to me that earrings are letizia's favourite piece of jewellery she does not seem to have any nice rings or grand necklaces at all

No, is not true that Queen Sofia owns all the jewellery. The Spanish Royal Family has some really nice pieces that are reserved to the Queen of Spain. Wink The most important one is the fleur de Lys Tiara:

Sofia own some pieces and I think JC too.

Their jewellery is personal, there's nothing that belongs to the state or, as far as we know, to a private foundation they set up. So yes, many pieces are Sofía's personal property. There's a special set (diamond tiara, earrings, brooches, necklaces and bracelets and pearl necklaces and brooches iirc )that is reserved for the sole use of the Queen. These jewels, like some others, specially the more historical, belong to the head of the RF (now Felipe) and are Letizia's to use as she chooses. Other jewels belong to JC, and it's very likely that he'll leave them for Felipe and the main line. (for example Queen Maria Cristina pearl and diamond tiara or the Cartier Pearl and Diamond tiara)
Letizia has her own jewellery (earrings, bracelets, necklaces...) and will probably inherit (through Felipe) part of Sofía's collection. When she was the Princess of Asturias Sofía lent her tiaras and jewels, it's very likely that she's still able to use pieces from Sofía's collection. And many of Sofía's pieces belong to JC/the SRF and are probably at Felipe's disposal.

interesting... i didn't know that JC owns some of the jewellery. now that he has abdicated i think he should just hand them over to Felipe so Letizia can use them  Grin

One more reason I like Queen Leti. Her bling is not overwhelming at all. Even plebs like us can find things similar to what she wears.
