I really don't consider that editorializing. JMHO.

I, speaking only for myself, am very very tired of persons parsing another person's comments, be they a celebrity, royal or plain ole common folk for what they consider hidden meanings and then being offended by things that were not said.

The ones putting words, and by extension hidden meanings to other people's remarks should also be very careful of what they do.

Soon no one will say anything for fear of its being misconstrued. It's an insidious way of controlling people's speech.

My ire is not with Will. It's with whoever extrapolated and decided Will meant something he did not say.

I totally agree.  There's been a lot of chatter as to why it is Europeans have cared more about this than conflicts elsewhere and if there are any racist implications.  There have been some commentators who undoubtedly have been racist, saying things like this is harder to accept because these refugees look like us etc.  Someone has decided to really stir the pot with what William said by making it sound like it falls into these kind of comments, and it's really unfair.  "A lie runs around the world before the truth has got its boots laced".  Now everyone thinks that is what he has said and few are prepared to accept he said anything different.

I apologize for my lack of clarity; I meant that the writer of the article editorialized, not that William did.  William's statement was clear and inoffensive.

I do think William in general has to be held to a higher standard, even in his unscripted remarks, because he does act as a representative of the Crown and there are a lot of political implications that can go along with that.

BUT, in this case, his sincere statement of sympathy and shock was, as has been said, innocuous and I'm sorry I fell for the author of that article putting his/her own spin on it.

This. I would be furious if I was William.
