Not sure where to post this, so in general history of Spain: is Spain in any position to take back Puerto Rico? They need help desperately and it looks like the country they officially have an affiliation with isnít up to helping as much as it should/is obligated to. Would they ever vote to go with Spain again?
Extremely unlikely. The country they are affiliated with would never allow that to happen, the forces are unbalanced and ,most importantly, I would say Puerto Rico would rather become an independent country.
Thank you, Fruela. I wonder if there has ever been a case of a colony of any country becoming independent and then deciding to go back.
I was in Belize two summers ago and plenty of people I spoke with wished it were still a colony with Britain and that independence was not all that and brought in corruption that was not there before. Belize has some ongoing uncomfortable relations with its western neighbor over treaties executed in the 1800s!
