Its a real impressive resum? she has, also given the fact that she made her way to New York finance district without any royal connection.
And the UN can be happy to have her, as she does not seem to be a figurehead for the inclusive finance topic, but has actually the knowledge to be a real asset for them.

What I like most with her is that no matter what she is doing, whether just accepting bouquets from a crowd, painting a wall for a social project, giving a speech, visiting UN headquarter, touring a local cheese factory or parading in ball gown & tiara ... she does it with a genuine smile (which includes her eyes), and she at least gives the impression that she enjoys all her work.
To me it seems as she's grateful for her life and really tries to give back to the people financing her position.

Sure she loves her fashion, sure she loves to overdo, and sure she loves to bathe in diamonds (and why not if the vault is wide open), but I don't think that she's really vain, otherwise she'd pay more attention to her hair everyday and let the hamster out more often.

ITA. Of all of the royal ladies (that I'm aware of) she's the one who looks like she really enjoys her role. The other thing I like is that she and her husband always look as if they've each woken up with their favourite person in the world.

Hamster???

This Queen seem like a fun and very intelligent women
I read she used work in a  bank or something before marriage to a prince.
I myself I Don't see attractions towards the king, I  mean he not good looking. But can see she general wants be with him for him
I wish we had somebody like her and Queen letizia of Spain instead  of a kate that uk have..Kate is plan boring and don't even know if she smart. Prince William is too stiff.

I hope her children take some of her *especially the heir *while all the children will need to support themselves* her intelligence, hard work and enjoying doing it. The way she present herself .
A question do you think she try too hard when she always smiling etc
She the one that making this royal more alive as her husband king is bit boring, I am wrong?
*sorry for any spelling mistakes

I guess it also works because Maxima supports causes and initiatives which fit her background and interests. Besides the 'regular stuff'

Maxima graduated with a degree in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina in 1995, and later completed her studies with a Master in the United States.  As a student she worked (1989-1990) at Mercado Abierto S.A., where she performed research at software for the financial markets. From 1992 till 1995 she was employed at the sales department of Boston Securities S.A. in Buenos Aires. Maxima also worked as a teacher of English language to children and adults, and of Mathematics for high school students and freshmen. She subsequently worked for large international finance companies in Argentina, New York, and Brussels.

According to the Dutch language Wiki:
After her study Economics Maxima went living in New York. From July 1996 till March 1998 she was vice-president Latin American Institutional Sales at the banc HSBC James Capel Inc. Subsequently till 1999 Maxima was vice-president Upcoming Markets at the banc Dresdner Kleinwort Benson. After that, till August 200, she was vice-president Institutional Sales at the Deutsche Bank

Over time Maxima has particulary been involved in projects, commissions, organisations, etc with regard to economics and immigration. Based on her background and her being an immigrant herself both fitting subjects.

Before her marriage Maxima took the compulsory inburgerings (naturalization) course for immigrants. Shortly after her marriage since July 2003  Maxima participated in the temporary commission Participation of Women from Ethnic Minorities, who advised the Dutch government in the field of integration of ethnic minorities. Maxima seemed to focus on issues surrounding the integration of immigrant women. The committee was disbanded on July 2005. M?xima stresses the importance for immigrants of learning the Dutch language (as she did) in order to fully participate in Dutch society. Dutch is actually the Queen's third language; she is also fluent in Spanish (her native language) and English. She speaks French to a conversational level.

Maxima was granted a seat in the Council of State in October 2004, the highest advisory body of the government. She can since then attend the deliberations and participate. But she is not a member and has no voting rights.

Maxima has a seat on the board of governors of the Chair on the Management of Diversity and Integration at the Free University of Amsterdam (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam); she (along with her husband) is a patron of the Orange Fund (established to promote social welfare and cohesion in the Netherlands); and she also chairs the Board of Trustees of the Prince Claus Chair in Development and Equity of the International Institute of Social Studies and the University of Utrecht.

She participated in projects like Money week (Geldweek) and other money awareness programs (mainly focused on the youth).

M?xima is one of the few members of royal families anywhere in the world to be an open supporter of gay rights, and was the first member of a royal family to attend an LGBT rights conference, having attended a conference concerned with LGBT rights on 5 March 2008

Since 2009 she is the official advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for inclusive finance for development. In that capacity, she gives advice to the Secretary-General to make available all over the world of financial services for everyone. Because of her efforts, she received on March 21, 2014 in Baden-Baden, the German Media Prize 2013.

M?xima is also the Honorary Patron of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) since June 2011. In this role she works with governments and partners to advance the G20 Action Plan on Financial Inclusion, and the G20 Financial Inclusion Peer Learning Program. Previously, the Queen was a member of the Advisors Group for the United Nations' International Year of Microcredit 2005 and until 2009, was a member of UN Advisors Group on Inclusive Financial Sectors.

thanks for the replay but isnt most the stuff there because she a Queen or because of her education/background work?

A combination of both I guess.

Based on her background in economics it seems reasonable to pick up associations, foundations etc. in this field. She already did as a princess, and now continues as quee

Her gaudy clothes, flashy jewellery etc would suggest she is a pretty vain  woman. IMO.

At least the gaudy in the sense of colorful and - for me as black/grey/white/olive green loving German - often overwhelming style I'd rather attribute to her latin american ancestry and corresponding joie de vivre.
I wish I had the courage to wear such colors with aplomb.

Is it being vain or is it just "I can - I do"?

She's often wearing costume jewellery (and this is often really ugly in my eyes), but she wears this with the same joy as the family jewels. And I like that she brings them out. This is a real "they are there - I wear them, no matter what"-attitude. If she did not have access to the good stuff, she'd just wear more costume jewellery. She's really a jewels lover.

I'm always curious what she'll get out of the vault and how she'll wear it. She's a real Magpie.  Grin

I wish she would ditch the bug themed stuff. How many spiders, dragon flies, butterflies and other bug-themed broaches does one need? (I need none!  bugs creep me out!)

Major O/T but wanted to just say how I admire Queen Max rocking the tiaras and the royal jewels or even costume jewelry. Yes, she is a magpie. She loves her bling, but so do I and if I have the access she has, you bet I would do the same    Blush.

Born royals do not know how to wear or look rather terrible in magnificent jewels that I cringe so often  Crap. But Queen Max the commoner magpie rocks them so effortlessly and I love looking at what she wears most of the time.   Thumb up. Except the culottes   . Nothing and I repeat, nothing can save that look  Nerves

/end of major vanity segway  Blush

I agree. Her clothing choices are sometimes questionable, her hair.... well, let's not go there, but her personality compensates for her fashion blunders.

But when she gets it right, she REALLY gets it right and she looks amazing. Her personality makes her shine even more at those times. I just wish there were more of those moments during the weeks. No more culottes! I lived through their rise and fall in the '70's.... NEVER AGAIN! It was bad then, it's worse now. Learn from fashion mistakes and don't repeat them!

Queen M?xima is happy with all the support she has received during her kidney infection. "Many thanks for all the good wishes of speedy recovery, really heart-warming '', M?xima said Wednesday in The Hague.

Queen M?xima
She appeared at the World Forum in The Hague for the first time in public late last month after the prematurely ended state visit in China because of pyelonephritis. She spent several days in the Bronovo hospital, from which she was fired Saturday. "It's much better. I still need to strengthen, but it's much better, '' said the Queen.

The king spoke with earlier admiration for his wife who was at his side during the first weekend of the state visit. " I have very much respect for my wife, she said the first weekend with high fever: it's the flu. And she just went, "said Willem-Alexander.

Speech
M?xima is Wednesday went back to work and gives a speech at an international conference on women's shelters. There is also Crown Princess Mary of Denmark at present.

The comment of WA also illustrates Maxima's good work ethics.

Max today visiting Raboud University Medical Center. The dress is new I think but the hemline seems to be poorly made or it's just the quality of the fabric?  Thinking

I agree on the hem, it looks like it was a last minute alteration.  Not very well done.
