A view on why perhaps Charles should not be head of the Commonwealth...

https://www.theguardian.c...ople-head-of-commonwealth

Oh, Charles!  I like you, but that was a big blunder.  I hope you realise why you shouldn't have said that.

Yes, totally uncalled for. Reads like a gaffe Philip would have spat out in the 60ties.

On top, is HE himself 'British'? From his 30 ancestors back to his great-great-grantparents, like 6 were Krauts, 2 Russian, and 4 Danish/Greek, if I counted that right. You'd call that a migrant background nowadays. Lest we forget.

Yes, lots of German blood especially. But don't forget Grannie, the QM. She was Scottish/English from way back.

Just saw the article on this. God, these Royals just get it so wrong. People already think you are an outdated institution that poorly reflect on its population. To add to that by suggesting someone of an Indian background doesn't look like the people of her town begs the question of what people there are supposed to look like? White?

Charles, do better and to do this during Commonwealth week. He's lucky this wasn't blown up much more.

This is not news or photos, but I have a question related to Charles, so I'm putting it here since I guess that's the most reasonable place for it.  Apologies if this is incorrect.

I'm wondering what your opinions are related to Charles as King.  Do you think he will be considered a good monarch?  I've never been much interested in Charles or the family. I truly love QEII/Philip and I really respect Anne, but beyond that, not much interest in them.  However, I do feel that Charles will be a good monarch. I think in the same way that Edward VII was a good monarch. At least, this is what I have gathered from documentaries on YouTube from BBC and others.

What are your thoughts on Charles as King?

Charles has had a whole lot of experience as Prince of Wales. I think he will make a good King. My one caveat on that is that he is inclined to go into various arenas and comment on things publicly. This could lead to clashes with the government of the day. A constitutional monarch is supposed to be strictly neutral. I'm not sure Charles is on certain issues.

I think he will make a very good King. I agree with rosella, but I have also heard talk to the effect of he makes his opinions known now and does as much as he does now re: charity work, and things, because he knows he cannot when he's in the top job.

I think he will be a good king, but whether he will be considered as such is a different affair altogether.  As he's not that popular, there will be more of a tendency to blame things on him, where the queen gets off more lightly.  Add that to the fact he likely won't reign long (and I can see him abdicating too), I think public opinion and history may not be as kind to him as he may deserve.

I never fail to be amazed just how rude members of this so called "Royal" family are to members of the public.
Just how does this fool think a person from Manchester looks like?

I figure they all consider themselves British considering they've lived their lives there. Kind of like how I'm American with Scottish grandparents but I sure don't call myself a Scot!

The trouble with him and the rest of the clan is that they think they are more British than the man/woman in the street.
