I think this topic needs to come back because I've seen Mathilde wear such a weird hat



Reminds me a little of the traditional hats people wear on the rice fields.

No wait, she has others too?





And although not royal, I'd like to give the honorary award for "hat you created in a matter of seconds before leaving" to Mathilde's mom, Countess Anna Maria Komorowska (dowager Countess d'Udekem d'Acoz) for her hat "Something I found drying on the wall of a fishing hut"

Eww first one is more cultural insensitivity than I'd expect from a state representative.
3rd hat down looks like she's strapped a row of oranges to her head with an ace bandage.

I prefer the cloche style hat the lady sitting next to Mathilde is wearing.

One of the most weird ones are worn by the Belgian Royals, among others this pink lamp shade of Maria Laura in 2003

This is lovely and very easy to make yourself:
#Take one of Grannie's doilies
#Wet thoroughly and drape around a balloon
#Cover with white glue (or something that dries translucent), so that the upperpart sticks to the balloon's round shape
#pull the edge of the doilie off the middle of the balloon so it creates a little brim.
#let dry at least over night
#pray paint in any colour you like....
