Queen Paola's birthday  Cool

Mathilde is the only woman I've ever seen that looks like she's a middle school librarian with a boring work outfit WHILE WEARING BRIGHT RED PEEP TOE SUPERHIGH PLATFORM HEELS. It's confounding and totally mind boggling lol! How does she spectacularly over-conservative-ise everything she wears?

I was shocked when I discovered that Mathilde is only three years older than me.  She looks around 50 or so.  There is something rather frumpy about her.  She's like a slightly better dressed and better groomed version of Linus of Luxembourg.

And, I just cannot with the stockings and open toed shoes.  WTF?

The helmet hair style is the culprit. She's the youngest queen in Europe but she looks her husband's age rather than her own age. I suspect she does it deliberately to better match with her husband due to their big age gap.

Princess Elisabeth looks so grown up.  She'll be 16 sometime this year I believe.  I think she has done the transition from little girl to mid teen clothing challenge extremely well.  I love the dress she wore, although I didn't like her shoes.  She was probably super excited at the prospect of now being old enough to wear small heels but I just don't like them.

Love that her little sister is wearing one of her old dresses.  Recycling between siblings is always good.  That's the benefit of having an older sister, right?

I agree that there is just something so frumpy about Mathilde that I can't put my finger on.

I don't have a problem with Elisabeth's shoes. I think in general, her clothes have always been pretty on the mark in terms of age appropriate (not too young, not too old). She'll be 16 this year and is right at the age where a lot of girls start to become interested in things like fashion/makeup etc and don't want to be 'babied'. They are a low heel as well, not a crazy stiletto.

I think in Mathilde's case that it is the type of clothes she picks and her hairstyle.  She tends to choose things that show off her midsection, which is the typical midsection of a middle aged woman who has had four kids.  When you look at the clothes, the fit of the clothes, and the old lady hairstyle, you see a very mumsy appearance.

She's got a great figure, but I think that if she chose clothes in a slightly different and slightly younger style, and if she did something different with her hair, she'd look so much younger.

Is that baby Anna in the photos?  I'd love to see her a little more clearly - she looks so cute!

Well, Mathilde is approximately my age, but Mathilde looks like my mother looked when she was my age.
Meaning: she looks like a mid forty year old woman looked mid of the 80ies, wearing conservative dresses rather than trousers or combinations, shorter haircut, no experiments stylewise, going steady with the style she found for herself years ago (although her crush on Natan and his sometimes strange colors/patterns is ... well ... in my eyes often experimental, but not to Mathildes good - for Mathilde it just seems to be her favourite designer, and if he does a megawatt pattern, then she'll wear it, but will look her formal and boring self in it).

Nowadays, mid forty women often dress a bit younger, or less conservative. Compare to Max, who is also a mother with a womanly figure and 2 years Mathilde's senior and you know what I mean.
Even for private occasions: one can imagine and has seen Max in casual clothes as well, also Leti when she has a cinema night out with Felipe, but Mathilde in Jeans, Espandrillas and a tunic? Or in a lingerie top with a gypsy maxi shirt and flipflops? Sundried, undone hair? No way. She seems to be born for formal. She always looks formal.

Other than Mathilde's utterly bizarre love of over-the-knee boots.

Anyway, I have to say that the BRF's children are always well dressed.  Elizabeth's dress is perfectly appropriate for her age, as is the height of the shoes.  She is the image of her father, but his features sit well on a girl.

I'm shocked Mathilde and Philippe let Elizabeth dress her age. I thought they might keep her in  frumpy, conservative clothes. She looks great!

You're right, they both seem soooo conservative but maybe they're not.

I don't think conservative means frumpy, the most iconic, elegant and fashionable women in the history were rather conservative, showing just the necessary, same is happening with Elizabeth, she is dressed her age but with great taste and decorum just like Mathilde who sometimes looks older but never unkempt, her makeup and hair is professionally done , her clothes are tailored and the accessories seemed to be chosen carefully.

Hair, clothes and accessories  no matter how carefully chosen they are, they always make her look like a woman in her 60s.

For a 15 year old royal, it's more " daring " than I would expect. Not for most just a conservative Belgium royal one.

I would be okay with it if she's not wearing pumps/heels. She's 15 but she starts dressing like a 25-year-old. That's a bit disconcerting.
