Doesn’t seem possible she’s 16 already!  Very nice photo with nice outfit.  She is looking more like her mother, especially her eyes.  Happy birthday to Eleanore.

Wow, what’s the voting age in Belgium? A couple of those kids seem pretty young to be voting.

I would expect Eléonore wouldn't be allowed to vote, as she is 16.

At least assuming the minimum age when allowed to vote is 18

(Emmanuel = 18; Gabriel = 20 & Elisabeth = 22)

Correction, see my post below. Apparently this is the only election where a 16 year old can vote in Belgium

According to this website:

https://www.watwat.be/ver...20(tijdelijk)%20wegneemt.

Gewestelijke verkiezingen: Vlaams, Brussels of Waals

Loosely translated as:

1. You are old enough: 16 or 18 years old
You should:

Be 16 years or older on June 9, 2024 for:
European elections

Be 18 years or older on June 9, 2024 for:
Federal elections: Belgium
Regional elections: Flemish, Brussels or Walloon

Be 18 years or older on October 13, 2024 for:
Provincial elections, such as for Flemish Brabant or West Flanders
Local elections: your municipality or city
Elections for the districts in Antwerp

Actually, the European elections are indeed from 16y since this election.
But we had to vote 3 times yesterday : for the region (Dutch-speaking and French Speaking), the federal government and the European vote. Voters in Brussels, which they are a part of, had to vote a 4th time: for the Brussels government (and if I'm correct, the German Speaking part had to do so too).

So whereas Eleonore had to vote 1 time (Europe), her siblings were allowed to vote 4 times, since the other elections are from 18 years old.

Interesting.

The EP voting was in NL only allowed for 18 and older, similar to the other elections

Every country sets their own age limit. I find it ridiculous to let 16-17 years old to vote (nothing to do with Eleanor). They have limited responsability in face of the law but let’s give them the vote. Not the right to drink or drive but let them vote.

I couldn't agree more!  In Germany they have lowered the voting age down to 16 , the first time that 16 year olds could vote for the EP.

I agree ! Most of them couldn’t care less about elections. (At 16 its legal to drink in Belgium 😉)

Ouch! Here they aren’t allowed to buy alcoholic drinks (beer included) or cigarettes below 18.

In the Netherlands it also used to be 16, but several years back this was changed into 18.
An acquintance of mine was happy to become 16, then she was officially allowed to drink. But then shortly before her sweet 16, the age limit was raised up to 18.

The saddest thing about alcohol age limit is that the brain is not fully developed before 25 and alcohol damages the nervous cells.
