AFAIK, lots of royal families decided to bestow HH on those below the Royal Couple, except when they married one of their male children:

Denmark
HRH CP Frederik
HRH CP Mary
HRH P Christian
HRH P Isabella
HRH P Vincent
HRH P Josephine

HRH P Joachim
HRH P Marie
HH   P Henrik
HH   P Athena

HRH P Benedikte

HSH P Alexandra
Mr. Jefferson von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth (his German title has no legal bearing, hence he is not a Count)
Mr. Friedrich von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth
Ms  Ingrid von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth

HSH P Natalie
       Mr. Heinrich-Wilhelm Johannsmann
       Mr. Konstantin Johannsmann
       Ms Louisa Johannsmann

Netherlands
HRH P Catharina-Amalia (+ The Princess of Orange)
HRH P Alexia
HRH P Ariane

HRH P Johan-Friso
RH   P Mabel
Countess Luana
Countess Zaria
Mabel only received the courtesy title Royal Highness, because she was the wife of a prince, but never legally a princess. Upon marriage, she became a member of the Dutch Royal Family but not a member of the Dutch Royal House, and Friso was excluded from the royal succession.

HRH P Constantijn
HRH Petra Laurentien
Countess Eloise
Count Claus-Casimir
Countess Leonore
Upon the abdication of Beatrix, the children of Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien ceased to be members of the Royal House, although they continue to be members of the royal family and remain in the line of succession.

Sweden
HRH CP Victoria
HRH P Daniel
HRH P Estelle

HRH P Carl-Philip
HRH P Sofia

HRH P Madeleine
       Mr. Christopher Paul O'Neill
HRH P Leonore
HRH P Nicolas

HRH P Birgitta
RH   P Margaretha (courtesy title) > Mrs. Ambler
RH   P Désirée (courtesy title) > Baroness Silfverschiöld
HE   P Christina (courtesy title) > Mrs. Magnuson

In the Netherlands, all of Princess Margriet's kids are HH (Margriet's grandkids have no title at all).

I think that in the Nordic families, HRH is reserved for those who are directly in line for the throne.  HH is for cadet branches.  Jokke is HRH because he's the child of a monarch.  However, Nikolai, Felix, Henrik and Athena are not children of a monarch.  Fred and Mary's kids will most likely be the children of a monarch, therefore they are HRH.

If Fred did something radical like remove his entire family out from the line of succession, then I imagine that Jokke's kids would be upgraded to HRH.

It doesn't look like Sweden does this.  I think Madde's kids are HRH, and I'm sure Greaseball's kids will be HRH as well (god forbid that idiot procreates).

Yes, Nico and Leo are both HRH Yes Which cemented CP's kids having the titles as well. His kids  Nerves will be closer to the throne. And there is always his chauvinistic father who does everything to make up to his son he was robbed of his title.

He is a member of the Royal Family but not of the Royal House, which consists only of his grandparents, parents and sister IA.So Sverre Magnus is styled as "His Highness", as opposed to his older sister, who is styled as"Her Royal Highness". Roll Eyes

He's in line, but he's not the direct heir; same as Jokke's kids-they're in line but aren't the direct heirs.

In the Netherlands, all of Princess Margriet's kids are HH (Margriet's grandkids have no title at all).

But they did some juggling with the (official) last names of Princess Margriet's grandchildren.
Officially all her sons were entitled with the prince of Oranje-Nassau, Van Vollenhoven (the last part because of their fathers surname). In other words they were all a prince (non hereditary) and Highness (indeed HH)

Maurits (1968) married Marilene van den Broek (1970) in May 1998. Shortly before their wedding it was officially decided their offspring would have the surname: Van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Vollenhoven

A way to honor their granddad, the husband of former Queen Juliana, prince Bernhard von Lippe-Biesterfeld.

The offspring of Bernard (1969), Pieter-Christiaan (1972) and Floris (1975) has the last name: Van Vollenhoven.

As PC and Floris didn't asked permission for their marriage, they were out of the succession line upon marriage to resp. Anita and Aimee.

With the abdication of Beatrix, Maurits and Bernhard were also out of the succession line. As the succession line is limited to three degrees of consanguinity.

I think it would be a good idea if the British Royals adopted the Norwegian and Danish way.  It would mean that the Sovereign's children would be HRH but their children would only be HH, except the Prince of Wales oldest child/heir.  It would limit who is part of the "royal family" and this give them a slightly "lower" status.

For now we have
HM Queen Elizabeth
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh
HRH Prince of Wales
HRH Duchess of Cornwall
HRH Duke of Cambridge
HRH Duchess of Cambride
HRH Prince George
HRH Princess Charlotte
HRH Prince Harry
HRH The Duke of York
HRH Princess Beatrice
HRH Princess Eugenie
HRH The Earl of Wessex
HRH The Countess of Wessex
[HRH Princess Louise
HRH Prince James]
HRH The Princess Royal.
HRH The Duke of Kent
HRH Princess Alexandra
HRH Prince Michael
HRH Princess Michael
HRH The Duke of Gloucester
HRH The Duchess of Gloucester

I think that could be slimmed down to:

HM Queen Elizabeth
HRH The Duke of Edinburgh
HRH Prince of Wales
HRH Duchess of Cornwall
HRH Duke of Cambridge
HRH Duchess of Cambride
HH Prince George
HH Princess Charlotte
HH Prince Harry
HRH The Duke of York
HH Princess Beatrice
HH Princess Eugenie
HRH The Earl of Wessex
HRH The Countess of Wessex
[HH Princess Louise
HH Prince James]
HRH The Princess Royal.
HH The Duke of Kent
HH Princess Alexandra
HH Prince Michael
HH Princess Michael
HH The Duke of Gloucester
HH The Duchess of Gloucester

I also think that Beatrice and Eugenie would do well to "drop" their HRH style upon marriage like HRH Princess Patricia of Connaught (Queen Victoria's granddaughter).  She become The Lady Patricia Ramsay upon her marriage by choice - she relinquished her royal status as she married a "commoner".

George and Charlotte can't just  be HH their prince William  father will be king. They both can be next.
And Louise and James are not label as prince and princess's  until they choice so at age 18
From their parents wish for privacy they are label as Lady and lord even through they are prince and princess.

Some of these "confessions" are beyond daft, as some very misinformed people like to submit stuff, of which many are the biggest sugars or have no clue like this person... By this logic Vic is going to be from the house of Westling.... The dynastic house won't change, that would only maybe happen if another high ranking royal or noble were to marry in, but in this day and age I don't think that would happen either anymore, repbulicanism is more likely to happen than a change of dynastic house/ surname...
