That sounds lovely Pru.

The remnants of Beryl have mostly passed. Over one and half inches of rain since yesterday. Good for the garden and not enough to cause flooding.

Only a small amount of damage locally - one tree limb on a roof and an electric pole down.

Predicted rain did not show up today; it moved further north leaving cooler temps and blue skies in my area (I was pleased). All the dog walkers were out today and I was able to greet owner & dog, with dogs accepting pats on the shoulder and reciprocating with wagging tail and an offer of a paw (or 2). For me it's the best part of walking through the grass and forest preserve areas. Owners are more relaxed and the dogs willing to accept a pat and a "good day" from a stranger after a quick 'look back' to their owner for an OK. What amazes me is that the dogs recognize me when it's been weeks since we have crossed paths. And, they wait for a paw shake, stroke on their head and respond to 'such a good dog' by resting a chin in my hand. I look forward to this. It makes any day better.

Very humid in upstate NY since before the 4th of July.  We get little breaks of a day or so with just "warmth" and no humidity but they have been far between.   Plenty of rain happily, so nothing is dried out.  It's just a long humid stretch.  My electric bill will be an expensive one!  I need the a/c almost every day.

In my area of the N American continent, mid-summer heat is preceded by rain. Buckets and buckets of rain followed by temps in the 29C to 34C (85 to 93F) during the afternoon. Then, the mosquitoes start hatching from every imaginable spoon of water or puddle. And so it's been for the last week. I wear long but loose jeans, socks, long sleeve summer weight knit undershirts beneath knit lightweight cotton T-shirts to keep perspiration from soaking everything and attracting even more than the usual summer pest bugs.

Then the third hatch of mosquitos shows up and the misery starts. Bug repellent works up to a point then fails utterly. That's when the mosquitoes have a feast. For the third time a mosquito bite "spot" of 25mm has swelled to 50mm in the time it took to apply the ammonia first aid liquid to the spot. Cut my walk short and went home to apply a more generous quantity of ammonia to the bite area. After 30 minutes the 50mm spot stopped feeling itchy -- for now. Experience has shown it will irritate once again so ...

I resorted to my parents remedy for itchy mosquito bites at bedtime. Soaked 51mm square paper towel piece in ammonia, folded it put it on the bite and wrapped it all in place with plastic wrap. Folded the wrap into a triangle then folded the 'tails' so they would be inside the wrap. The wrap enclosed the bit of paper towel against my wrist and was sticky enough to stay wrapped and in place on my wrists. I wish I had remembered this sooner. In 5 minutes the bite site stopped itching madly,. At this point I can leave the wrist wrapped and go to sleep.

No doubt some not yet irritating mosquito bite will wake me for an ammonia application.

Sigh.... it's summer. If you haven't tried to ammonia treatment, give it whirl. It works.

Oh my, wishing you all the best.

I have my musquito spots plenty already this year, but they are childsplay in comparison to what you experience.

There is one bug, not certain which one, whichs bite results in oedema, red/tight skin and a lot of itching in my case. The first time it happened to be severe my mother wanted to visit the doctor with me. But my dad advised to try first with a wet cool cloth and some vinegar. The last part decreases the itching, resulting in less (unaware) scratching. It worked, it got less. A few days later I was at the doctor for something different and he confirmed it being an insect bite. Since then every time experiencing something similar or knowing it is coming up....I put the body part up (in case of a limb and when possible), cool it and apply vinegar (f.e. in the put on cloth).
