King and Queen for 25 years

On Sunday, January 17, 2016 it is 25 years since their majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja became Norway's king and queen. The day itself - and jubileums?ret - will become being labeled in several m?ter.

Today, Prime Minister Erna Solberg launched a gift to the King and Queen on the occasion of the jubilee: There are outdoor events with stage shows and activities at University Square with crown workshop, adventure Lavvu and photo wall, followed by festive concert in the University Hall. On the Palace Square there will be winter activities for children and youth, including snowboarding, ski jumping and biathlon with laser. In Spikersuppa children can try figure skating.

King and Queen contacted NIF to see if they had wanted to help arrange a ski event for children at the Palace Square on the occasion of the anniversary on 17 January. The organizing committee thought this was a good idea and came back with a proposal for a large winter sports event for children at the Palace Square.

The Norwegian government works closely with the sport about the event at the Palace Square, so this will be coordinated with the arrangements contained in the Government's gift to the royal couple.

The events on Palace Square and University Square, are free and open to everyone, and will be specially adapted for children and adolescents. The inaugural performance in the University Hall is displayed directly on the big screen at University Square, and will also be shown on NRK the same evening.

A dedicated event page was launched on Facebook tonight. On Facebook/royal couple 25 years it will be published information on everything that will happen anniversary day.

There will be several celebrations of the anniversary year 2016. In addition to the celebration on January 17, will highlights include an Anniversary Trip with Kongeskipet along the Norwegian coast from 17th - 28th of June, and a service in the cathedral - the day 25 years after the King and Queen were signed there.

Excuse my ignorance, but is it dark around the clock there in January?  Because I notice that the fireworks are at 1 pm.

I look forward to all the photos. I remember when he acceded to the throne.

Thanks for posting this, Peeds Smiley Star  It sounds like a nice program of events, not at all OTT. I'm curious, though--anyone know why the private dinner w/foreign royals is at Skaugum and not the Royal Palace? Seems odd to me Thinking

The Norwegian word morketiden (the dark time)perfectly describes the first half of the winter(from October to January). It's darkest time of the year. The sun rises at nine and sets around three in Oslo. Further north toward the Arctic Circle, there is even less light  Wink

Its a translation error, its a salute from Akershus fortress, not fireworks, and in Oslo as it is written it is light at 13.00, thankfully Smiley

NRK has made a 7 episode series, the royals has been interviewd and given private photos and video, the first episode is about Harald and sonjas relationship and will air december 30th. in this article you can see new old photos...

I hope 'foreign royals' means from all over Europe and not just Scandinavia

It means Queen Margrethe, and King and Queen of Sweden:) Its confirmed in the courts program.
Also King Olavs silverjubilee was for scandinavian royals only.
Next year (2017) when the King turns 80 we can expect "from all over Europe" Smiley

MM can stay in the Palace looking after Henrik because you know one of them won't be able to attend for one illness reason or another

Oh, I don't know. MM doesn't mind attending parties. It's public duties she can't stand!

I think you've finally cracked how MM works out what events to show up for...

Can I wear a gown worth $10,000+?
Can I be photographed with other royals?
Can I eat the best food possible?
Can I drink the best wine possible?
Can I spend days and days resting before this 'official event' and maybe throw in a shopping trip or two to NY to find something to wear?

IF yes to all of this then she'll show up for sure
