Today is the closing of the 350th Oktave in Lux. Lots of foreign bishops and a special envoy from the Pope attend the mass but only Henri and MT are present  Thumb down. The Lux archbishop was quite direct at the beginning, he bashed some teachers who did set exams for the day the schools had their special mass (but he also praised those teachers who didn't set exams for this day), he then greeted all officials, the mayor, JC Juncker, parliament members. He then praised Henri for supporting this event and said that he is a symbol for Lux (lots of applause).
No pics so far since the mass is still on but they will follow later today.
If you want to watch, rtl has a livestream now and later for the procession (at 3pm) http://www.rtl.lu/letzebuerg/899205.html
If that one is busy, at least the mass is also available via that one (not sure about the procession): http://www.cathol.lu/arch...-stream-aus-der-kathedral

cathol.lu has more pics from this morning. So far, only a stream from the cathedral but not from the procession (rtl said they would stream the procession as well but they just show the cathedral)
Here is the stream for the procession (at least the part before the palais). You might have to watch the ad for 15 secs but then you should get it. It is the 2nd one, not the cathedral webcam

So Gui and Linus made it to the procession but couldn't bother to attend the mass this morning  Thumb down? Thought they were on their way to China  Thinking? So I guess enough people complained about them skipping important events in Lux. But since they didn't attend the mass this morning, why didn't they go to Sweden? They would have had the time. Haven't seen any of the other children which is strange. Tessy is excused, she is sick but no idea where everybody else is hiding.

Strange Oktave so far: MT and Henri looked extremely tense but still very close during the livestream. Not sure if there was a security threat but their security also looked extremely tense, especially when they were standing (plus more security dogs looking for bombs this year). Also the crowd infront of the palais is extremely small for the balcony appearance. Also not stopping to talk with people on the way to the palais  |:|and much more police and security than last year

Also a very short balcony scene but at least nothing happened. I will post more pics tonight or tomorrow, depends when they are available.

So Guillaume and Stephanie were there while all the others were missing. Obviously all this talk how they dare to skip this event was a bit prematurely. They had better attended the mass in the morning too though.

I watched the livestream last year. Already then the crowd was very small and the balcony appearance lasted less than 5 minutes iirc. It struck me as underwhelming back then.
And the security has been beefed up all over Europe after the Paris and Brussels attacks. Had there been a specific threat the press would have mentioned it already imo.

Tessy posted something on her Instagram page about how she was stuck at home with a virus.

However, there's no reason why Louis or the rest of the siblings couldn't have gone.  The family and their sugars like to publicly declare how religious they all are.  Surely such religious and devout people would want to be at a religious festival for the country that supports them?  Lobster and Linus should have been to both events since they're the heirs.  Felix and Claire should have been there too, especially since Felix and Amalia are two and three in line.

The press would NOT mention it if there were threats against the procession, only if they had to cancel. I know from several friends that they didn't attend this year because they didn't feel safe. It is the most important religious event in Lux, it includes the head of state plus several bishops, so a "good" opportunity for terrorists. I am glad that nothing happened, we don't need more of this shit. Still no idea why Felix and his siblings didn't attend. For security reasons it would have made more sense to cancel the balcony or let only Henri OR Gui do the procession/balcony but not both and keep everybody else at home. The cathedral was safer than the walk through town, so no excuse for Linus and Gui not to attend, especially not since it was the renewal of the dedication of Maria, the city patron. So it was an important mass, which should have been attended by more than just Henri and MT. I can understand that Louis skipped. If Tessy has to stay in bed, it made more sense for him to stay with her and the boys, so he could look after her. But no excuse for Felix. He managed to attend the wine event a few weeks earlier (probably promoting his wine in Lux) but did not attend this? Sorry but except for MT and Henri, the whole thing was a failure for the family and very bad promotion for them

Privat for ex would have screamed it from the rooftops imo. Henri and MT looking tense can have several other reasons, perhaps they are missing their family.  And if there had been real danger they would have cancelled the procession, that?s for sure. The family isn't even closely or more obviously guarded in these pics you posted. In case of real danger their bodyguards would walk right next to them with security shield bags like the do in the neighbouring countries of late.

They were shielded more than usual, you could see it during the stream. Especially on the way back to the palais, it was visible that there was far more security than usual around them and they didn't stop to chat with people, they just went inside without talking to the people. Privat wouldn't have the information about increased danger. You could see that there were various danger-lvels during the last few months, it was not in the media but you realised it when walking through town. Some buildings had more security than usual and sometimes the shortcuts between some government buildings were closed to the public, so even if they didn't change the official security level, you could well see that they did adapt to the day to day news.

What you described happened all across Europe during the last months, nothing unusual imo, just the security reacting to the increased terror risk everywhere.

What exactly is the significance of this day in Luxembourg. What does it commemorate?
