Well Rania says it's a personal choice, although so far as the JRF is concerned I'd say it was cultural as no lady within the family covers their head so far as I'm aware.

The thing to remember is that Arabs only make up less than a fifth of the entire muslim population, it's only within the last 30 or so years that wearing a headscarf has become popular with non-Arab women. As my Dad always says, when he was growing up none of the women in his family wore a headscarf, they may have been pious and modest but this need to "prove something" by covering your head is a fairly recent phenomenon.

Glad you said that, because it really is a genuine fact! - and it also applies to Arabs.  Smiley

Simple answer, she may not be muslim....

Although even if she is, she may not cover her head. The lady with the odd 80's style headband doesn't have her head covered either.

I assumed the headband-wearer was a younger girl, since she's a bit smaller than the others, and I know younger girls often don't wear head coverings.  I also assumed the first woman was muslim since Mares seemed to be visiting in someone's home and the other adult women all had their hair covered.  But you're probably right...she's may not be muslim.

But as LS said, it is not a must for muslim women to cover up?
And the lady wearing the scarf is afair the lady showing Mary around and not a lady of this particular household. So maybe while Mary's tour guide chooses to wear the hijab (is that the correct word?) the hostesses of the lunch date might have chosen against this.

I think she was right, I visited Malaysia, Indonesia which have large moeslem population I saw many people don't wear scarves/hijab.
Some of moslem women I know here wear hijab and some other not, they don't seem have any problem with other woman's choice not to wear it.

Yep, hijab is the correct word, that is the name for the headscarf.

Several royals at the wedding party of Hamzah and Noor.

Picture I: Felipe, Letizia (blue dress), MC, Pavlos, WA, Maxima (I recognize her forehead  Grin). Victoria sat behind Felipe, then Haakon and MM.

Picture II: It seems they were cheering for Felipe and Letizia (another newlywed couple) to dance or to kiss ? WA looks like the cheerleader.  Princess Noor is also in the picture.
