I love the photos of Margaret Rhodes and members of the royal family - they look so relaxed. I think the ankle socks make me giggle here

And the Dubonnet with ice and lemon here

How sad. The Queen must be feeling quite low as all her contemporary are passing. Margaret Rhodes was a lovely lady. No flies on her.

The queen has to be especially sad - Margaret was probably one of the few people in her life that she absolutely trusted. RIP.

I was so sad to hear about this. I was really touched by some of the things she said about HM for her 90th birthday tv special, one of them was how proud "The King" would be. Not "her father" but "The King" since she had lived during his reign too. That was pretty cool.

Oh, dear!  This will be a very sad time for the Queen.  Was Margaret the last of Elizabeth's contemporary women friends?  I remember my mother losing the last of her contemporaries.  There was no-one left with whom she could discuss the old days and remember her as a young woman.  At least Elizabeth still has Philip.

The two Mountbatten ladies are still alive I think , she would have been friendly with them all of her life as well been cousins to her and to Philip . Also she has her Kent cousin Edward & Alexandra who she is close too. Don't know if Margaret was the last of her generation from the Bowes Lyons .

Oh, yes!  I'd forgotten the Mountbatten ladies were in the same age bracket:  87 and 92.  They are contemporaries so she has them.  Edward and Alexandra are youngsters, only 81 and 79.  Grin

Very sad to hear this news. She was probably one of the few people she could really relax and be herself around. I will have to check out the book she wrote about HM.

I always got the impression she was her closest childhood friend.
