Elena Escalante, delegate of the Rare Diseases Federation (Feder) in Madrid, has praised the role that Queen Letizia has played in the development of the federation and in the dissemination of these pathologies and ensures that "thanks to her work, her involvement, her support many doors have been opened to us." Escalante, in an interview with Servimedia on the occasion of the commemoration of Rare Disease Day on February 28, said that "the Queen is discreet and humble and does a wonderful job in the federation." There is a before and after in the history of Feder's 18 years. When she started to support us things changed, she has opened many doors for us" The delegate of Feder also stressed that "like the federation, the Queen is clear that research and education comes first, and in that sense has played a very important role." http://www.servimedia.es/...ias/Detalle.aspx?n=660764

March 2, 2017. Official Event to commemorate Rare Diseases Day at El Prado Museum. Letizia gave a short speech, and in the end said that after she finished writing the speech a few days ago (telling us that she writes her own speeches), she met a woman yesterday at the women and disabilities congress in Avila She already knew this woman, she has a son with a rare disease. And she told Letizia yesterday that her son is dying, that there is a medicine but that he won't get it in time and that she will have to go on like other parents have had to do. She asked Letizia to not give up because her message is very important. And Letizia finishes her speech saying that this is why she's there, she's there because we need more scientific research and because she's not giving up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BpMnk_atV0
