I didn't know he ever did "official" things for the royal family.  I mean, he's not a royal.

I know Haakon went to UC Berkeley (a public university), so I wonder where Marius will go?  USC (private) has an excellent Biz Admin program, as does Berkeley.  Of course, as a non-resident, Berkeley will be more expensive, and USC is expensive for everyone (except legacies).

I hope they won't make fun of him over there like they did on twitter when he was featured as a hot royal in US Weekly.

I don't think the students will know who he is.  Just another Scandinavian.  I didn't realise Haakon was even *at* Berkeley at the time; if I had, I would've visited the area a bit more often!

He always appeared at family events. I guess they are just making it clear that this kind of thing will not extend into adulthood.

But that's weird --he wouldn't appear with his mother and half-sister?  Not get invited to birthdays?  Why would the Kongehuset say this in the first place?

I think it's a matter of clarifying his future position with the NRF. He is a brother to the future queen, but is not of the RF, so they're just clearing that up. You know we'll see him at family events and such. I don't see this as a big deal.

Today I learned that USC, which was always on my radar as a kid, is a private university. The more you know!

We called it University of Spoiled Children (which would encompass the legacies).

People barely noticed that Haakon was here in Berkeley except that on weekends he occasionally had to go do Sons of Norway or Daughters of Norway or the Norwegian Seamen's Church events.  These went unnoticed by local media as membership in these organizations these days is comprised largely of geriatric Norwegian-Americans.

I am betting on Berkeley for Marius largely on the strength of its proximity to the ski slopes up around Lake Tahoe. Marius is a well-known winter sports enthusiast.

The only reason he will be noticeable will be his appearance. He is a Nordic-god hottie after all.

TBH he got the best of two worlds: who his mom is (now) and his step-dad opens all the doors and he can always claim to be a private citizen. But it is good that he ventures out and does not try to ride the royal wave.

And at least he's not going to Brown, or NYU, like so many other upper-something Euros.

And Southern California has plenty of skiing, too, you know!  It's not only Mammoth.

Someone who knows in advance that they can spend a lot of money without problem and hesitation, it's easy to spend the first months in a foreign city in parties, exursions etc. If I were in his shoes, I don't know how I would react but I wish I had the same choice.

I am closing the thread. Marius can't help his royal connection and thus we don't want to host a discussion on him.
