Not bad - but I guess the other day's rocks still weren't heavy enough to drown her

Imagine that dresser of hers, frantically rummaging through the costume jewellery vault: 'we neeeeed more rocks!! never mind the quality, I need more more more!!!  MORE!!'

LOL, however I quite like the costume jewels, they are fun, a bold statement with an otherwise rather bland outfit. And she isn't the classy, elegant dainty type with a row of pearls, and a Cartier watch and a small diamond solitaire earring. She suits loud and bold.

I agree, she does suit that. She will never be the understated elegant type, and we wouldn't want her to be. Wink

Moving this here from a different board because I'm going to talk about Max, and because I don't want to clutter Max's current year events...

Thank you Masha for the video Star !!

Maxima was never this fake, take a look at their engagement interview, totally professional, fluent in a different language,   no stupid loving stare like two teenagers, very on point and aware and proud  of her new position,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7iwEV2OCiw

I never realized that Maxima actually made a speech in Dutch.

Did she knew Dutch prior to meeting with WAX? Or did she started learning when she started dating WAX?

Anyhow, I really really appreciate the speech in Dutch. It shows that she's taking her job seriously.

I know that different people have different capacity of learning a new language, but going an extra mile like Max (not waiting until AFTER the wedding, etc), is surely appreciated.

Also, she really embraces her adopted country real well. I know that one cannot just shed one's own birth country and heritage, but I honestly appreciate Max for really representing the country she is "leading" (or her husband is, to be correct).

Prince Claus adviced her in the beginning of their courtship: learn Dutch! So Maxima did. Went to a famous language institute in the south of the Netherlands. She did a week long program, and stayed there (to sleep). After that week (where you are indoctrinated with the language) you understand some Dutch and speak the basics. It is expensive, but popular for expats and business people who need to learn the language fast. Her accent didn't improve though, over the years. You can tell (or I can tell, being raised in a bi-ligual envirement) that she still speaks a whole lot of Spanish. Daily to her daughters at least. That was actually a "thing", when she spoke Spanish with them on a Dutch national holiday outing. Some people were offended/angry that Max didn't bother to honour the language that day of the year. But most people didn't care. For the princesses, it is amazing. As they learn English, French and German in school. And as they are expected to do Gymnasium (the highest level of high school), speaking Spanish helps with Latin class.

Max even bothered to learn nursery rhymes/songs and Sinterklaas songs. There are a few clips of her singing with the AAAs on YouTube, and she is definitely not fumbling or mumbling the words - heck she even sings a few I don't even know by heart

Her accent is still strong, but her speed, vocabulary and the amount of odd Dutch expressions she uses (and uses appropriately) is impressive. I doubt the accent will ever go. Her (German) Grandfather in law Bernhard had a strong accent, but her (German) father in law much less so. There a plenty plenty people in our country that have a much stronger accent to their Dutch because of their local dialects - and I don't mean when they talk in their dialet, but when they actually speak mainstream Dutch!

She also actually uses sometimes Dutch words (appropriately) which are new for part of the Dutch people.

What to think of the Belgium royals.....if I am correct Paola often received negative remarks from the Flemish part of Belgium because of her Dutch (use of it and pronounciation)
